A couple missing for 10 days after setting off from their home in Esperance in Western Australia's south to go camping have been found alive and well in remote bush 200 kilometres north-west of the town.
But police later called off the search after combing thousands of square kilometres without finding any trace of the couple or their four-wheel drive.
However, friends of the family started their own search yesterday and one friend found the pair late last night at Peak Charles, 200 kilometres north-west of Esperance.
Couple lit fires to try to attract attention
They were tired and hungry, having run out of food, but otherwise well and reported that their 14-year-old four-wheel-drive had broken down early in their journey after its radiator was pierced.
They said they had lit fires to try to alert search planes to their whereabouts.
They were towed back to Esperance to be reunited with their three daughters, aged between 10 and 18.
Ms Sim's mother, Te-Rangi Lim, said her grandchildren were in denial at first when the pair telephoned last night to say they were alive and were on their way back to Esperance.
"We want to thank everyone that's been involved with the search, the farmers that have been involved those that had their planes up, we want to thank them all for that, " she said.
"I'm happy to have my daughter and my son-in-law home."

It was said on the news tonight that Friends of the missing couple continued the search after the Police had called it off, saying that they had covered the whole area,
What makes me wonder is that the couple were found on the track where they had planed to go and it was on a mud map that they had left behind in case anything went wrong.
I wonder who called off the search and why so quickly ????
Now there is going to be an inquiry into what the heck is going on, ( which we will probably never hear the result of ) into what sort of search was conducted, and how come no-one thought to ask if they had left any plan behind as to their travel plans. ???
I bet if it was the Premiers Son missing, they would have had the Army called in by now.

Yeh kiwijims, I'm not sure why or what but, I can't help thinking that there is something fishy about this whole story. I will wait with baited breath over the next few days, as I don't think it is quite over yet, or maybe I am a bit of a pessimist?

G'day Aussie, Welcome to the Forum,
Funny you should say that,
The Wife an I have thought the same thing, there could be a lot more to the story,
that could explain why the search was called off so quickly,
We too will wait and see if things come out in the wash, so to speak.
