Welcome us and 2 dogs we offer you a warm welcome to the forum as for coffee machine I do use a pod machine that I purchased at Aldi and there are pods other than Aldi ones that fit this machine, they are also reasonably priced and last well mine is now 4 years old and cost around $90, worth considering.

One of the secrets of a good cappuccino is the stretching of the milk. Milk is not frothed, it is "stretched". This is what lets the pod machines down, for me anyway.

We have a Breville coffee machine the same as the one below in the link - it is a manual machine so you can make your coffee as strong or weak as you like and it steams milk as good as any of the others. Best thing is it's light, takes up not too much space and well under $200. Despite all the hype, most if not all machines use exactly the same process to produce a cup of coffee....the only difference is the price.
I am no coffee expert but I have discovered that the price does not alway guarrantee quality. I have purchased "domestic" machines costing $1000+ and they have let me down. I have purchased the "known brands" and they also have let me down. The area they seem to fail in is how they make steam. Some use a mechanical pump to create pressure or 15+ bar as they call it. These machines are easily identified as they make thumping noise as they make the steam. The good machines have 2 boilers. One to make the coffee and one to make the steam. These do not make a pumping sound when creating steam. If you cannot afford a double boiler model then a single boiler one is OK. It just takes half a minute to change the boiler from coffee extraction to steam. I have used and they have broken down or failed to work properly a Krupps, De longhi, Breville, Saeco, and they all failed. To get them fixed was as dear as buying a new one. I then went to a barrista course and discovered Rancilio. They make commercial machines as well as semi domestic. This has proper boilers and I have had it for over 5 years. It makes great coffee but it is not cheap. You also need to get a decent grinder as the cheap grinders do not grind fine enough for this machine. Having said all that, I am quite impressed by the pod machines. Lots of resorts have these and they do make a reasonable coffee. However, I am told the pods can cost the earth and soon the cost of the coffee outweighs the cjheaper unit. Also with coffee machines that use grind coffee, you can purchase a mix you like from a decent coffee shop. Pods you just take what they put in. At the end of the day I like my cafe Latte, but I am also quite happy with a caffine fix of blend 43 if thats the only option.

usand2dogs, I have witnessed Paul "Stretching" his milk. The only problem he has is the milk spilling on the floor as he tries holding one end in one hand and the other end in the other hand.

G'day KFC, mate.

Google Aeropress. They make a fantastic coffee maker that doesn't use power, is compact for the van and produces a great quality coffee. I use mine daily.
If you finally have to go to a pod consider the ALDI machine. They have a large choice of pods from very weak to very strong. You would find one you like.
Have had coffee machines but found I still used my nestle 43 more than machine.
At home I brew my own, in the camper I use a Pod because of space. Not sure how good the Aldi Pod machine is but I have tried a strong short black from their range of Pods, superb.
I've been using a very old Breville drip machine which I purchased at a Sunday Market for about $5.00, back when Adam was a boy. However having being graced with extra funds from Centrelink, a $2.60 a fortnight increase in the Age Pension, I decided to lash out and buy a new machine. I purchased a Sunbeam Model PC7900 from Harvey Norman for around $60.00. Attached photo. Highly recommended if you require a basic machine for the morning coffee. Can make up to 12 cups.

I just use instant 'Nescafe Gold Intense Barrister Style' .. sounds good & tastes OK to us.
I am too lazy to use the Aldi pod thingo that sits in the home cupboard beside the old fashioned plastic drip perculator & then there is the old glass drip perculator that Mother used to use. Several packets of ground coffee in the freezer, only a few years old too.
PS .. My first encounter with pod machines was in Boston where I managed to stuff up the first machine but the room service guy kindly & without comment gave me personal instruction on the replacement machine. So I became the instant expert for the rest of our traveling group.

Like Dougwe has already said, welcome to the forum.
Unlike Dougwe (who is a mate and great bloke!) I love my coffee. I went to woolworths and got a Caffitaly machine on special ($99) and it produces nice coffee in the mornings and whenever the craving kicks in. Pods are around $6 for 10 or 16 (depends on how you buy them. I have found "grinders" brand to be the best.
Machine works well on my genny and inverter when we free camp.
BTW, just between you and me, Dougwe has no taste in cars.
Keep on slurping that caffeine.

I use a French Plunger type pot. Also grind the coffee beans with an electric grinder.
I was given a Pod type machine three years ago for Xmas, and was not all that impressed with the price of the coffee pods. Asked my nephew if he would like it back as I never used it after the first lot of Pods I bought were gone. Theirs had just Karked it, so he grabbed it.
They I have noticed now have two machines. The big one does the works, bells and whistles included, also the Pod one I gave back to them. "Coffee anybody !" they ask, and they make you Instant Coffee, cos it takes to long to make 6 cups on any of the machines ?
Further more I have never been impressed by the temperature of the delivered coffee from most of these machines (Grounds or Pods) as I like coffee HOT.
Added to that the disposing of the Pod after use was not in my way of thinking good for the environment. I notice there is a rising concerns over the pollution caused by these Pod containers.
I will stick to my Plunger Pot and Coffee Grinder, it suits me still to make it that way. I drank Black coffee from I was about 15 till just about ten years ago (57 years) when I started to enjoy it with Cold milk added. Never been into all the fancy frothy coffee's.
Good luck with your inquiry, and Happy Morning Coffee breaks in the future.

Welcome to the Forum from this neck o the woods also :) , so many pointers towards a coffee machine and can go on and on :)...Just get one that you can get the grinds in , packs the coffee in , and steams or stretches the milk as previouse stated .
The secret is not to burn the Milk :) when you froth/stretch it..
A good Coffee bean/grind and a little knowledege in making your own will tell if you keep your machine or dump it after a few uses..
I started making Cappicheeeeeeennnnoooos at the ripe ol age of fourteen in the Town Of Golburn N.S.W. , hundreds a day especially come lilac time doing fourteen hour shifts :) and second nature making a good Cappy even at this ripe ol age :)...
