After waiting on the the free knee replacement surgery list for 2 years. i was advised as long as i was a blue Pension card holder with centrelink i was eligable for a free TKR Prothisis even though i was net yet old enough for pension. Was i anoyed i have beeen a blue pension card holder for th past 18 months. So a quick refferal to my proffered specialist and surgery was organised for 8/9/2016. The out of pocket cost was $7000.00. You can not use the free prothisis under the public hospital scheme. I am now doing the hard yards with Physio at home and Hospital which you can do in the public system. Very painful but future looking good.

Forgive my ignorance, what is a blue card pension holder??? How do you get that? if you not eligible yet for pension? I have to work out how these things work. I will be approaching pension age in early 2018 as apparently you can't get pension till 65 and 6 mths. I know that I would be eligible for a pension card which will be good for me for any meds. Other than that I have no idea of any of it is. LOL
Well I can now drive a car, ride a bike carefully and be able to travel a bit. Physio wants me to walk for 20 mins a day and surgeon would like 1 hour. Spent some time walking in shopping centre after the surgeon visit. I have to practice in walking up and down stairs properly. Can bend right knee 95 deg and left 105 now so getting there.

Nearly 4 months since both knees done. Walking fine with straight legs instead of bow legs. Go to the pool 3 times a week for exercise. Still got pain at times especially at night. Started riding a folding step through bike 3 weeks ago. Bit painful until I got the seat adjusted right. Today I started on my normal bike. Getting the leg over the bar a bit difficult but real great to be able to go riding again on the bike. Getting off was ok. Back on tomorrow as I felt a lot better after today.
