Loved Blinman, and the people there, and their entrepreneurial spirit. Particularly the way the locals would drive up to the pub and get out with a beer already in their hands!

Yes, Nifty only 16 people live in the town but a lot living on the Stations. These people are very friendly and helpful (most anyway).

When I get settled I am going to open my acreage for people to camp.

I will trying to grow bush fruits as well.

There is no mobiles or internet up there, but after a few days won't miss them. I saw one couple running around worrying about their phones!!

Hey Helen.

You picked a beaut place to park.
Just remember it can get up around 50 in summer in a good yr there.

40 odd yrs ago.
we used to go there shooting and to get away from it all.
last trip. 5 days. it dropped to 41/43 o.night and hitting 52/53 by 11am

You stuck your arm out of the shade
and watched water blisters forming on your arm. seriously.

One thing. You didn't sweat out there.
and when the genny stops. the lights go out.

We picked our paddock 16 yrs ago.

4km North of Yeppoon.

On side of hill looking out over Keppells and round corner from town.

They can do what they like. till we go round the corner.

there's nothing but the sound of swells on beach which we can see from front deck.

Sorta Heaven.

The first tine/place in my 75 yrs I've called anywhere.... Home.

Enjoy it girl.

Not too many find that peace.....

Highest recorded temperature for Blinman is 46.3 C.

Average of 14 days per year above 40 C (data from Leigh Creek, 60 km away)

Are you talking about temperature in the sun or the shade?

Yes it does get hot up there but a great piece of country to spend your time in.

Macka I know it gets pretty hot up there but only a few days a year, nights are nice though. I will have all the modern cons eventually.

Now if you went there shooting the locals would jump on you in a flash. Guess somethings have improved in this world.

There are a lot National Parks there now - taken back from the Stations of the early settlers.

The Rainbow snake will look after me!!

Hi Helen, Does Rex Ellis still run camel safaris out of Blinman ? Went on one about 15 years ago. It was great fun. Hope you enjoy it there.

Hi Val, There are two people up there but don't his name is Rex but will check it out for you, am going up there today to check out the house a bit more.

Think it might fall down around my ears and getting workmen up there could be a problem, still got my van though so might have to live in that for awhile.

Traveling is not good for me though as I always want to live in all the beautiful spots I come across. Guess that's the gypsy in me!

Helen great to see you have followed your dreams and have now turned a new corner.
Not sure if it is appropriate but if you have some space around your new home there may be some people on here that would love a base for a while and in return give you some help with your renos, as a lot on here have trade skills as well as the general knowledge to get things done. I would suggest you give it some thought and if you wish put out a call and see what response you get.
Tradesmen/persons out there are not only hard to get but very expensive.
I have spend months at Willow springs doing odd jobs etc for a place to camp and the occasion trips out helping collected the rubbish around the parks etc.
Sorry cant help as I have just done a similar thing but I have done the house boat option so I also have my hands full for a while as well as helping a friend set up his business installing battery and solar systems in Rv's house boats and stand alone so be busy for a while but I bet there are many on here would love some time up there.
Go for it girl and give it your all

Hi Helen. I like the idea of visitors being welcome especially if they can bring a hammer and paint brush,there is a lot of members here who I am sure would enjoy helping in exchange of a free park and Some laughter and smiles.

It would be good to know a little more and maybe see a pic or two of your new place. How much space do you have?

No internet may mean it is going to be differcult for you to post often so bomb us now while you can with all your ideas.

Lost My Better Half a few months ago and decided to travel with a new van to find the place I am going to finally hang my hat. Won't be inland, spent too much time sweating and wasting time, my journey will be by the sea. Fresh fish, oysters, mussels and mermaids!

If you find the need to use the internet, duck down to the Parachilna Gorge, have a coffee at the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna, and use their internet. (Can't remember if it was free in the pub or not, but if you have your own data, you just latch on to theirs.....)

Took mate's 2 sons out on first prper hunting trip.

The next one. From memory was up home at Townsville.
Pigs in the tunnels with bayonets and the dogs
THAT kept the Adrenalin flowing.

There's nothing wroung with shooting/hunting.
as long as you select your targets. Call your shots.
and NEVER squeeze without a visible backstop behind target.
Preferably side of hill.
I personally, got a lot of pleasure from shooting.
Clays. On the long shot ranges, and game. Feral.

Yep, agree, highest recorded temp in Aust was 50.7C, which was set at Oodnadatta in South Australia in January 1960.
