The commodore station wagon

i am new to camping and have had my commodore station wagon fitted out for camping. The first park that I chose told me that nobody is allowed to sleep in a car. The second camp had no problem with it. Is there any legal restriction in Victoria that anybody knows of as I enjoyed it very much and would like to go further afield.

Never encountered that problem before. I have an Iveco motor home but also have a Ford Falcon Panel Van decked out to camp in. I assume you say "Park" meaning Caravan Park. I've seen lots of Station Wagon campers. There are also Companies that hire them out decked out for camping. Sounds like bull..it to me!! Incidentally, welcome to the Forum..

Welcome to the gang jkcats, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Head to the smaller CVP's not the big name ones, they don't mind, money is money or stop at free/alternative camps, they don't mind either.

I see heaps of people travelling and sleeping in cars and look very happy campers indeed. I have a couple around me as we speak.

Keep Safe on the roads.

I have a Landrover Defender Station Wagon which I've decked out as a Camper. I have travelled and camped along the East Coast of Australia extensively over the last 15yrs and have never had that problem. I rarely stay in Caravan Parks though. Get Wiki Camps on your Phone or Computer. Plenty of Free Camps and Showers all over the place. And don't forget to thanks the Caravan Parks for saving you money, Manners is still important I think. :)

Hello jkcats

As others have already said, welcome to the forum

Like Dougwe has already said, I have also come across people sleeping in sedan cars, station wagons, and panel vans, with no problems I was aware of

If you get yourself a copy of Camps 8 book, or the Wikicamps for a laptop, then you will be able to see all the camps in the playground, both paid and free.
You will also be able to see which camps have toilet, water, BBQ, seat & table, shade, etc

Hope you enjoy yourself out in the playground

We camped at Cape Le Grande , Karrajini, Kalbarri, Winjana Gorge, Silent Gorge.  NO CAMPING????? We did not see this when we were there in 2014. No one would bother to go if they could not camp.

I am new to your forum !
I am looking to travel to W.A. early next year - heading up Geraldton way ( I have a Daughter over there I have not seen in years )
I have not worked out yet whether I will be taking a Caravan or a Mobile home ( recently sold my 4x4 and my current van is cactus )
but that is not really relevant - I have been caravaning and campervaning for years , I will adapt .
I have never been to WA , and do not know much about the place , the plan is 6 months over there .
I am worried about there apparently strict camping rules ( particularly on the trip over ) coming from QLD , using the shortest safe rout ,
My GPS indicates 49 hours traveling time so most likely a week , I am not sure about how to select and work out "sleep stops" on the way without standing on the toes of local law enforcement .
I assume a lot of small country towns do not have caravan parks ( prefer free parks anyway funds are pretty tight) .
I will however be traveling solo .

Hello pony-tail

Firstly and most important, welcome to this fine forum

I live in West Australia, and I assume that when you say you are going to take the shortest safe route, you mean that you will be on the bitumen

I can assure you that there are plenty of free camps on the way.

If you were to obtain either the Camp 8 (I think that is the current number) book, or download Wikicamps, they will both show you where all the camps, both free and paid, are.

They also show what is in those camps, such as, phone coverage, toilet, water, shade, BBQ, etc

I hope you have a good trip

Edit to add that I only use free or low cost camps, and that I have met several solo ladies, and that no one had complained of harassment, or felt unsafe

 I am solo male .

I have toured many times in north QLD / NT but I have never caravaned anywhere else .( same places every few years )

Now I can no longer work , I was looking at longer trips and somewhere new .

The plan at this stage is to go straight to Geraldton and use that as a base and see as much of  WA as I can while I am there - Some places ( short runs ) by motorbike ( I will be taking on with me ) and long runs hopefully in a motorhome , If I can get one on my budget  - If not it will be Holden 1 tonner with caravan and bike on the ute . either way . Too old now and too many health issues to do the whole run on a bike and camp in a tent .

I have found a couple of Motorhomes of the type I am looking at , basically A Holden Rodeo ute with a motorhome bolted on the back or a Toyota hilux was the other one - the Rodeo was a Winnebago brand and was well kitted out but had a deposit Placed by the time I got to it ! The Hilux I could not fit through the door in the cab ( without a height adjustable seat ) but I am not in a hurry I have till December .I am not planning to leave till late January and want to get the best kit I can get for my budget ( which at 20k for all of it on the road , is it , appears -  a little lean ) but I have what I have .

Hi Ponytail - welcome to the forum - the blogspot above - by a fellow Grey Nomad member - Yeoeleven - his story is inspirational to all.

He is 80 this year, and has been on the road for almost six years.  He posts only in the Solo section of this forum, where you can get access to his blog - as I said - a great read.

Good luck.

Hello pony-tail

My apologies for thinking that you were a female
I had obviously mistaken you for someone else

I hope you manage to find the vehicle you are looking for, and have a safe and enjoyable trip
