Leaving Adelaide late August - which way to go??

Hi, let me introduce myself, I am Nicky, hubby is Alan and we have one very spoilt English Staffy called Bobby, we have sold our family home and will be leaving Adelaide in late August/early September for the big lap, we are new to this and are undecided which way to head from Adelaide, hubby wants to head west, but i am a bit worried about the weather at that time of year.

Any advice would be very welcome, we have a AWD car and will be towing a caravan, we wont be going off-roading and need to avoid dog unfriendly places.

Welcome to the gang Nicky and Alan, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I could be out a bit here but leaving at that time of year could find you going across the top, either way, in the " wet season " and probably not a good idea. Just my thoughts though as I have not done that yet.

I suggest you explore SA, Vic, Tassi and NSW first and head north after April.
No way you will get a full lap in.

Thanks Guys, we will be on the road full time for about 12 months so hope to see as much as we can in that time, as we are leaving SA in our winter, would you recommend heading north straight away?

We leave northern Australia by the end of September .If you have not been in Northern Australia in summer you are in for a hot surprise , Southern Australia in summer northern Australia in Winter .

 Leaving "late August or early September" you have already had winter in Adelaide.  You are leaving in Spring.

It can still be done, explore Yorke Peninsula, Eyre Peninsula, Port Lincoln & the West Coast.

Across to Esperance then enjoy WA's beautiful Southwest during Summer where daily temperatures can be 15c lower than Perth.

By February you could be heading North, slowly.  There is much to see & do on the West Coast.

Pilbara & up to Kimberly & across to Darwin will take you to May / June.  Better start heading South tho Adelaide if you only want to be away a year.

Adelaide in July.

This is assuming you are like most people & try to avoid the North in Summer, you may love the heat & humidity.  In this case go north from Adelaide and decide in Darwin whether to turn right or left. Either way 12 months is not enough for a full lap & see anything.
