My new Coffee machine.

My much loved Bezzera Domus Galatea is away for maintenance, so in the interim I bought a La Pavoni Professional lever espresso machine, very attractive device, relatively light weight and makes pretty good espresso, suspect it will find a spot in the Kea and become our travel coffee maker when the Bezzera takes up residence again.

Looks good Santa, tell me, do you use bottled water/distilled/demineralised or what when brewing.

Regards

Great Santa. We use an identical item for our van coffee. I have not quite got the milk stretching very good as yet. I have found find full cream milk, and stretch/froth just enough for each full shot cup, as well as not having too much water in the tank to get a stronger steam flow gives me the best results.

Aussie Paul. smile

I agree regarding steam Paul, tank around half full seems to give a decent result, though don't use steam much, I drink mainly black.smile

My problem is Santa I have an Aussie made Boema single group head coffee machine at home and it makes coffee as good as any cafe/coffee shop. I really get ****ty when I pay for coffee that is not as good as I make at home!!!!! So I ask quite a bit from the van La Pavoni. My cousin Kerry (KJB)reduced the size of a Boema for his 5th wheeler.

I'm in exactly the same position Paul, I have a Bezzera Domus Galatea, Italian made, E61 group head, coupled with a Mazzer Mini grinder, an excellent combination and, as you say capable of producing espresso better than 95% of cafes.

Which model Boema do you have?

I also roast my own beans which is a huge cost saving, with the added bonus of always having freshly roasted coffee.

Coffee is awesome. Prolly the only good thing to come out of Islam... I like to chant Nuke Mecca while enjoying a nice Latte...

I'd go the the naughty corner but I refuse to.

I agree, good machines are not cheap, however its a hobby and Heather and I both enjoy good coffee.

I've owned my Bezzera for about 7 years, and it is still going strong, it enables me to make coffee better than you get in most specialist coffee places for a fraction of the cost.

As I commented earlier in the thread, have been roasting my own coffee for about 10 years, its a great interest.

Pics below, my roaster, yep a converted Breville bread Maker and Bosch heat gunbiggrin and the results.smileDSC_0277_669x1000.jpgDSC_0281_1000x669.jpg

We have used a LaPavoni Lever machine and Iberital grinder whilst "on the road"

At home a Boema (commercial ,single group, touch pad ) with a Boema commercial "on demand " grinder .

As mentioned by " aussie_paul "  my current "project" is a "miniaturised ,hot rodded "  Boema to take the place of the LaPavoni in the van. It is almost finished. Takes up the same room as the LaPavoni.

Boema machines can be bought inexpensively on EBay and Gumtree and are excellent home machines . Backup is great as they are built in Sydney (for about 60 years, the  only commercial espresso machines built in Australia)

As you said , coffee is a great hobby and has a world wide following.

Have a 3kva Honda Inverter Gen Set , on the L/Cruiser ,plugged to the van .Have a "change over " switch in the van to go from mains to Gen Set.  I have converted the Honda to "remote start" so that the whole set up is simple and convenient. Honda really only ever runs at a fast idle under load and is super quiet. Only go near it to refuel - and that is infrequent. We can start the Gen Set whilst on the move so that "steam is up" etc. when we stop for a coffee.

I doubt that you will Paul, my Pav is a nice little machine, makes a pretty good cappuccino, however the shots it produces doesn't come close to the Bezzera, milk disguises a lot of flaws.

Regardless the LaPavoni will make a handy traveling machine.smile
