Murray River road trip

We are at present planning a caravanning road trip for February 2017 following the Murray river from South Australia through to NSW, has anyone out there done a similar trip?

We are interested in where the best place to start from is and what where the highlights?

I guess another question is how long should one allow for this trip?

Welcome to the gang Nage, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Not having done the full length of the mighty river I can't say much at all but from what I have done in a previous life and much younger there are heaps of spots to set up for the night or longer. Just check if CV can get in due to trees etc.

Can I suggest if you haven't already got them, get a copy of Camps Australia Wide, currently in edition 8 and also a copy of Wiki Camps for your phone or similar. I work with both, usually check Camps then zoom in, so to speak in Wiki for comments and pics. Make sure you read as many comments as you can, both possitive and negative then take all all from there. OH! Make sure you put your comments in when you use places. Wiki is only as good as the usuers make it.

As for "highlights" well all the mighty river is a highlight anywhere really. As we speak there is an algae problem in parts from Echuca through to Albury but will get sorted soon more than likely.

Keep Safe on the roads.

Why not start at the beginning? Tom Groggin in the beautiful Snowy Mountains. There are many places to camp along the shores of the Mighty Murray but of course not all are suitable to vans or high rigs like mine. DougWe has done what he does so well & given you some great advice. I have always wanted to kayak the river! Might have left it a smidge late but I still plan to do a section one day. Safe & happy trails.
