British Engineering

Only in America!!!

Subject: BRITISH ENGINEERING

FROM  ROLLS-ROYCE STAFF MAGAZINE

Sometimes it DOES take a Rocket Scientist!! (true story)..

Scientists at Rolls Royce built a gun specifically to launch dead chickens at the windshields of airliners and military jets all travelling at maximum velocity.

The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields.

American engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the Windshields of their new high speed trains.

Arrangements were made, and a gun was sent to the American engineers.

When the gun was fired, the engineers stood shocked as the chicken shot out of the barrel, crashed into the shatterproof shield, smashed it to smithereens, blasted through the control console, snapped the engineer's back-rest in two and embedded itself in the back wall of the cabin like an arrow shot from a bow..

The horrified Yanks sent Rolls Royce the disastrous results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield and begged the British scientists for suggestions.

You're going to love this.....

Rolls Royce responded with a one-line memo:

"Defrost the Bloody chicken."

A good story Magnarc, but unfortunately there are a few variations around, and none actually verified as true. as can be seen here.

For crying out load 03troopy we ave a administrator. We don't need a forum policeman FFS to tell us someone has duplicated  a topic. Not all of us check the site everyday or even see if the joke might be previously reported... Get al life man...

Take your hand off your gun and get a clue. The point of 03troopy's post was to dismiss any suggestion that the story may be true, allowing for the fact that it was written in jest. There was no suggestion that the joke had previously been posted on this forum. Where did you get that idea?

BTW, the Chicken Gun "myth" was tested on Mythbusters ... twice.

Thanks Dorian, yeah I have been hearing that myth since the 70's or 80's when I was in the RAAF, with many variations of it.

As for the jokes that I linked back to the previous posting of the same joke, well when you hear a joke the first time it is funny. When you hear it again a couple of days later it is no longer funny. It takes me at least 3 or 4 weeks to forget the original telling of the joke and to still be amused by it. Obviously the time span is a lot less for some people wink
