Dave & Mable first appeared as characters in  On Our Selection by Steele Rudd. The rudd stories were turned into films by the Australian director Ken Hall, with a very young Peter Finch playing Dave. The sexual escapades of Dave and Mabel have been a staple of Australian humour ever since, with most jokes focusing on innocents dealing with the wickedness of the big city. A familiar theme in Australian popular culture, it was also recycled for the Crocodile Dundee films  So here's a few.

Dad and Dave were standing watching  a dingo licking its private parts. Dave turns and says to dad. Just between you and me , i wanted to do that all my life. Dad said. Go ahead, but i'd pat him a bit first. He looks pretty vicious to me.

Dad and Dave were watching a documentary on the tele, showing a rabbit plague in victoria. The narrator explained that rabbits had been introduced to australia by an englishman. He'd imported four or five pairs for his favourite sport of shooting. Looking at all the millions of bunnies hopping around, Dave said He must of been a crook shot.
