New to this website but not to touring. I know many people say there is no need to be lonely when travelling solo, but personally I find myself with little in common when sitting around the campfire with fellow grey nomads. No grandchildren and no partner to talk about I usually sit quietly. So I thought why not try travelling in company with a fellow solo female with her own motorhome/campervan. Could be the best of both worlds. There's company when you want it, but you still have the option of your own space.
It also gives the adventurous woman some safety, security and company. And if compatibility is just not there (we are all stuck in our ways at this age) then you simply drive in different directions.
I'm 63 and living full time in my 4.5 tonne motorhome. Originally I started out with a 4WD and caravan but got sick of towing the van. I also found towing a caravan stopped me being adventurous and I found myself spending too much time in caravan parks. I now spend 6 out of 7 days free camping, which I much prefer. Currently touring Nth. Queensland, I have no set itinerary except heading south when it starts warming up. I am a quiet non-smoker and light drinker, and a voracious reader, thank god, because there is plenty of time for reading. Music taste generally modern (favourite radio station double J), but also listen to classical.

A very warm welcome to you. Travelling with someone is a great idea. I was recently at Lawnton showgrounds and 6 ladies (all widowed) we travelling in convoy having a great time. they went off and did their own thing if they wanted and got together is that suited too. they had it made. cheers. rocket n strop

Hello Craigus - I am also a solo female travelling around with a 4WD and caravan. Earlier this year I did a trip over to WA with my sister/brother-in-law and friends of theirs for a couple of months but found it different as I was the only solo amongst the group. I left them in Perth and came back across the Nullabor myself. I am currently in Brisbane for the next couple of months and then will look at going somewhere around mid November but at this stage no plans. When travelling I try to free camp as much as possible. If you get down this area, let me know and maybe we can catchup for a chat. cheers

I may well be going through Brisbane on the way south, not sure what I'm doing. I don't like the busy roads of the east coast, it's all rush, rush, rush. I like to cruise on 80kph but on busy roads like the Bruce Highway I feel obliged to push it to 90. That or ignore my mirrors. I'm surprised at all the grey nomads who feel they have to speed; why? I am in no rush whatsoever. You see so much more when taking your time.
I've popped into Charters Towers to do a little shopping and to use the computer and phone, but I'll be going straight back to Fletchers Creek campground, my favourite campground. You Queenslanders do look after the grey nomad population, better than any other state. I suppose somewhere on this website there will be chat about favourite campgrounds, but for me Fletchers Creek, Macrossan Park, Camooweal Billabong and Corella Dam (Clem Walton Park) are my favourites so far because nobody seems to mind how long you stay. There must be more like these around, (lots of room, plenty of places to go for a walk and nobody pushing you to move on) but I have yet to find them.
Anyway, back to the grind of reading and walking. And Honda, let me know some way of contacting you. Cheers everybody.

Craigus, I'm presuming by your comments, you are male, some seem to have the impression you are female. To contact others privately on this site, click on their username and Private Message them. That way you can leave info that you may not want the world to know, like phone numbers.
Wuruma Dam is another good spot - near Monto in QLD - read about it in the "Budget, free camp spots" sub forum which can be found below the Solo section a bit, read all of the forum, even though you are a solo - never know what you might learn - we also love Macrossen and Cammoweal Billabongs.
