just a reminder, like smoke alarms really. Checked mine during the week, the gunk that came out was shocking. Took a while to clear it all. Only 8 months old and Im not a prolific user of the hot water, but I have been living in the caravan permanently.
interestingly, the new anode I bought as a spare is way smaller, so I'll be checking it sooner...
Changing the anode is definitely something that MUST be carried out at least annually. I do mine in January each year.
I must say the 8-month old anode you show in the pic is certainly not as far gone as mine is after 12 months. I think you could (and maybe should) let it go longer than 8 months next time. Just my opinion.
This pic shows one that is pretty much 'used up' ... mine, at 12 months looks about this bad. I have seen them further gone than as illustrated.
Cheers - John

You may well be right John, the one before this was is dire straits. But it took an enormous amount of water to flush all the gunk out ( I was in a CP so it didn't matter!!) I would just prefer to do it more regularly and feel confident there's no big gunk globs to be flushed out, or left remaining. But I'm a clean freak cutting and polishing my van is my latest project......
