For all the people complaining about double post and poor spelling this has all been done before, just enter search double posts and read your complaints in past posts. Why are you double posting?

Yep, some people certainly are slow learners ain't they? a bit like them that continually cop speeding fines, just real slow to get the message.biggrin

Yipes what a great thread. For me, I no longer give a toss, I'm happy with my morning coffee, breakfast and quick look at this forum and a few others.

The battle of mind on electrical stuff can be confusing, however some of the protagonists including me, have lofty points of view and a few have large axes to grind. If questions were a little clearer the answers may be congruent.

Me?.. I don't give a toss.

Hmmmm.........some members complain because nobody is posting, then when they do (even if not correctly) they get torn to shreds......no wonder many are either reluctant to post or don't want to set themselves up inadvertently as whipping posts.....confuse hmm no

I agree with Fran, we are not in private school, and we are all learning, and have to start somewhere with some questions. If one does not like a post, one does not have to read it.
I have also tried to use the search engine for posts that I have started and have not been able to find them. Still this could be because I am now a "senior" person and the brain is a little raddled, ( not sure if that is even a word).
Oh dear I think it might be a slow Good Friday. Time to put the pearls and makeup on and go for a walk to clear the brain.

Have a read through the document this link takes you to http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/Lookup/4102.0Chapter6102008

In 2015 literacy is pretty important, it matters little whether the skills are gained in a private or government school, as the doc points out,

"Good literacy is an essential skill for coping with the many demands of life in contemporary Australian society. Tasks ranging from reading the directions on a bottle of medicine, completing a tax return, or accessing information on the Internet, all require a reasonably high level of English literacy. People who are unable to complete such tasks independently are at a considerable disadvantage."

G'day Vic <Weevil>, wondered how you've been going mate....you've had a fair bit on your health plate?...

Re search..I have made several posts re links and info how to get started in gold detecting....mentioned the word gold many times....if I put the word 'gold' in the search absolutely nothing appears about my posts just a few rather irrelevant posts with the word gold in it.....recently I posted a comprehensive go to whoa on purchasing/registering/equipment for Sat T.V.....that's gone to the Bermuda Triangle of knowledge base as well........posts with a fair bit of meat in them for anyone starting out in these subjects... requiring more than a casual input... end up like yesterdays newspaper....however that's life.....wouldn't be dead for quids..like most of the posts here in five years they won't mean a tinkers' cuss to anyone IMO....we may not even be alive.....Hoo Roo

The search tool works just fine.

It's the indiscriminate posting and poor spelling that confuses the heck out of it.wink

You think??? Search the term "Gibb River"  and you won't find my post or the one that Vic posted.  Why???? Because it doesn't search or display the Title of the post.  I rest my case!

This gets back to the OP about preparing your text well. Not only does this laziness confuse the search tool I have seen it causing other problems. If you are too lazy to include the text of the heading in your body text don't expect the forum to work well. Well composed text should be able to be read without having to refer back to the heading.

There are some of us who don't bother to read the text from those who post rubbish postings. There is no excuse for not installing a spell checker and setting it to check the text as you type. Use the shift key to insert capitals in the correct place, it makes reading your text so much easier. The other thing is to use short sentences and start a new paragraph when you start a new thought.

The underlying thing is, if you want quality information in the replies then take some care in asking your questions.

If your biggest worry in life, is someones spelling or punctuation, or posting something in the wrong place, on a camping forum, you sure haven't got to many problems in life.

Bletch as they say in the classics.

I like (Changing the subject yet again)nono

Mozart opera. Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. Military marching music. My caravan. My Ford. This and other forums. Dougwe, weevil, 03troopy, and all the great folks on here, good red wine, scotch, brandy etc.

I don't like

Blowhards and bullies, religion, flat tyres, holdens, school principals, tennis, AFL, commercialised sport of any flavour, I'm not allowed to mention politicians too (as he marches off to the naughty corner)

that should change the thread and make some more totally brain out conversation.yawnyawn

Solutions:

Warn all newcomers of the dangers of posting in the wrong place.

Ignore all postings that are misplaced.

Use a 3 strike system, then you're banned, which means someone or Cindy would have to keep records.

As long as there's new comers to the room, it'll happen again and again.

This subject has been flogged to death, so much so, no one is checking this same conversation was mentioned recently, and has been over the years.

Practice what you preach, lol lol.

"holdens"

But you said you liked me Phil and I have a Holden Colorado. Best car I have ever had.

Not the naughty corner mate, the naughty ROOM with no rations for a week.

Oh! no visitors either.

Mmmmm, is that still on topic biggrin If not, blame KFT smile

Does anyone know if there are any free camps near Oonygalarby? I will be travelling there in about fifteen years time and want to plan ahead. Do you think I will need long pyjamas or a spare can opener? Am I on the right thread or should this be in the "Show us your rig" section? Look forward to your helpful replies!

You are more likely to get useful replies if you were to follow the convention and include the GPS or at least general location of Oonygalarby.

What are these 'pyjamas' things?

We are not the slightest bit interested in 'your rig'.  I was going to suggest that you try the Solo page but that would be in appropriate, so I won't.

Have a nice day

ps.  In 15 years time the only question that may interest me  if I am lucky is, "Is it wheel chair friendly".
