Unbelievable !! Councils, Governments are only looking to fleece us over petty matters. One of the reasons I never vote...

Typical new reporting doesn't give all the facts, he parked his van on Nicklin Way with a sale sign on it so it was in a prominent position most likely on council land.  Most councils have bylaws not allowing you to a park vehicle on council property advertising it for sale regardless how you word a sign. It wasn't that he put a sign on the van, it was because he parked it illegally for the purpose of advertising it for sale.  I feel sorry for the guy, but he should have just paid the $220 fine instead of trying to fight it.

I knew there would be more to the story. Pretty "stupid" to take a Council to court over a fine that was probably legit. The old "someone told me mate that it would be ok"!!!!!!!!!!!!biggrin

Just the same they could have told him to move it or else i would have thought rather than fine him ??...Unless thats what they did originally??

I don't agree with the old bloke either...bit stubborn really, but what took my eye was that the magistrate said:
""He said to me, 'I can't send you to jail. If you don't pay your fine we are going to take your licence off you'."
So that means he is deprived of his licence to pay a fine???

maybe petty - but in our area we have major problems with people parking their vehicles on the grassed and planted areas and then put up for sale signs. Its not the fact of what they want to do, but the council spends a lot of money putting down the grass and planting the gardens and then some of these turkeys drive over them and leave squashed plants and tyre marks in the grass.

If you want to sell your car or anything else, put it on your own property or on-line.............and this wasn't an attack on someone elderly......I watched it on TV and he was asked to move the vehicle sometime the same day but told the ranger he wouldn't. He deserves what he got, the stubborn old fool

I can agree to that.  I just sucked up a $3000 fine instead of $6,500 lawyers plus a fine....

hehehehe

Maybe the "friend" who gave him the bad advice could step up and pay the fine for him. Bloke also needs to give himself a kick in the bum for not checking with authorities if the advice was correct. Rotten outcome for the man but he needs to take some responsibility.

I got a warning notice, that if i didn't remove my vehicle within 24Hrs of the time on the notice I'd get a fine too, when i was trying to sell my previous vehicle.. So I complied and moved it 23 hours later lol. It was on a corner where it is common to see cars for sale, and I had not heard of people being fined before. I have also not noticed any other vehicles with warnings on them there since. I did end up selling it though, so all good
