Yesterday we purchased from a Dick Smith store, a second TV for the study. Was on Special for $349. The store was out of stock and would have the unit available for pick up Wednesday of this week. Now!!!Today I received their specials email from Dick Smith saying that the same JVC 32 inch T.V with DVD player was a one day special at $319. On line only.
We rang D/S and was able to negotiate our purchase down to $319.
Now that is what I call excellent customer service.
However one had to follow up with the company to have the deal.
But well done to Dick Smith.
I also note, that since Woolworths sold the company that they have gone ahead in leaps and bounds, as far as stock presentation and staff customer service. P.S. I do not have shares in DSH. Just a happy customer.

Huh.......you got good service, but the staff are very unhappy.
Since Woolies sold them, they have made plenty of profit for their shareholders, but staff have lost money big time. Their commissions have been substantially reduced, staff hours per store slashed (so you wait longer for service), many product lines have been cut. It used to be a place for many Uni students to work part-time, but their contracts were changed and now not many of them work at all - so many of the staff are poor retail staff who have been sacked by other retailers.
The QLD State Manager runs that state, WA and NT and 4 days ago they sacked all their state HR managers. All were notified at the same time and shown out the door within an hour by an Area Manager.
How do I know all this..............my son is a store manager and has been for 5 years now. When Woolies ran it, staff were treated fairly. Now under their current CEO, the staff are treated very badly and store managers (now there are no HR Mngrs) spend most of their week employing yet more staff and trying to train them up (before they leave)
Jay - you were lucky to get good service and its only JB HIFI that forces Dick Smiths to follow suit with the price adjustment they gave you

Can you see most employers taking on 70+ year olds??
Look at the unemployment rate now for young people, and not all are dole happy - many want a real job. In western Sydney, youth employment is around 16% and in southern Perth it is similar - same right round the country
I retired last year at 62 after being made redundant when the company I worked for went into liquidation. Applied for so many jobs - have senior management experience, Uni degree in management and marketing.
Two Westfarmers companies - Coles and Bunnings thought I was great, even after 2 face to face interviews, until I filled in the new employee form - suddenly they didn't want me anymore (that was when they found out my date of birth).
A co-worker of my wife, both of whom are retail assistants, has been given a new job with a new employer as Area Manager in Perth. Hes 22 yrs old - lots of experience, huh. Why are they employing so many young people in management roles (like Maccas) - because they pay lousy money. In the Area Managers job he provides his own car, no petrol or tyre etc allowance (has to drive all over Perth to their many stores). He worked out he will net almost $1000 a week. Take out his vehicle costs and it doesn't look so flash anymore.
Do you think these young managers will want us oldies working UNDER them and do we want to work for them?????
I think not.............this working longer in meaningful jobs is just Govt b**********t

I must say that in the number of times we have been in a Dick Smith store we have never experienced poor customer service. I guess that what goes on behind the scenes we the public never see..
As for the extended age of working, the one thing you can not beat is experience, but then again we must employ our young, so that they can in turn gain the experience that we possess.

Troopy - Dicks have bought back and are still bringing back the components you mention, but in such a disjointed fashion that their staff suspect its dumped stuff theyre picking up and knocking off
