Jayco, another view.

I have had three Jayco vans and have had some problems albeit small ones, that have all been promptly fixed. When you are the biggest show in town you will always attract "knockers" many of whom have never owned a Jayco van and base their comments on third hand information which may or not be true.

Yes, I think that may be the case Phil. Even with the smallish problems that we Jayco owners have, THEY are promptly fixed, AND probably the best value for money. It allows many people to travel who would not otherwise be able to do so. Horses for courses as with most things.

I agree that Jayco do go beyond their warranty period in assisting owners to rectify issues. They do have excellent designs which they refine each year.

If you have issues, then join the Jayco Expanda Forum website - there are Jayco staff monitoring it to assist their customers.

But I just wish they improved their quality control on the production line so that there were no small problems which their customers have to identify and then have to take the van back to get rectified! Can be quite inconvenient and time consuming.

Fully agree with Phil, Paul and Glen - there are plenty of other vans makers out there, whose vans have problems that you don't often hear about, it is the old Tall Poppy Syndrome I think.

Never owned a Jayco, don't like Jaycos and even in their new flagship model (Silverline) they have not made good use of space, HOWEVER, I can fully appreciate why people buy Jaycos. I even advise people who ask me 'what to buy' to go and get a Jayco for the reasons mentioned above. Maybe one day when I am sick and tired of having to chase other makers to fix any problems, I will probably buy a Jayco.

They are probably the only manufacturer who publicly acknowledges that their vans are not perfect BUT they do spend a lot of energy making sure all their customers are happy as can be.

Exactly! Acknowledging that you don't make perfect vans on public, is something to reckon to! Also, their customer service is superb!

I never said that Jayco is good or bad

My questian was : How many man hrs it takes to make a caravan

all the material used is around $24000 for a normal 21 ft caravan

( and that is for most Caravan builders )

I did made a copy from myother posting

Cheers John

Its the old story, one person gets a Holden or Ford that is a lemon, he tells his mate and the Chinese whispers turn the Holden/Ford into something not to buy. When you make more than anyone else
you have to expect the odd lemon. BTW I am a happy Jayco owner

As can be seen by my avitar I currently own a 2005 Jayco Heritage and this is my third Jayco I have had absolutely no problems with my other two from new and the current one till recently no issues.

I have just noticed that I have a problem with the Gel-coat on one side which is breaking down and you can see the fibreglass matting so I rang Jayco head office customer service and spoke to a very nice lady who told me to take it to a dealer or caravan repair centre and get a report on the problem for Jayco they will then see what they can do, I will be taking it to Paul Tall at Londonderry for assessment.

This van is 10 years old now and I ask would any other Manufacturer consider repairs I don't think so,
I will report back when I get a final result from Jayco.

We just sold our Jayco. Were not impressed with the very long list of things we needed to fix, but definitely impressed by the Jayco dealers who helped us all over Australia. They are all busy yet when we were travelling they made time to suit our schedule.

I would buy another Jayco for sure... I would just go to a country region or another state to get a good dealer, the ones in Melbourne suck.

Hi all,

When we were shopping for our caravan we looked at as many brands as we could (within our price range). Just about all of the dealers had some snide remark about Jayco, we were told they were built to a price (thank goodness says my bank account) and they had major problems all the time.

We have now been living 24/7 in our 2013 Jayco Starcraft 20-62-2 (20 footer) for the past 2 years. Yes we had an early issue that was promptly dealt with by Jayco.

This is how good they are, our house settled 3 weeks before the van was due to deliver, Jayco in Adelaide loaned us (for free) another caravan until ours was ready, the sales lady (Lisa) bought the loan van to the caravan park and picked it up again. Im sorry to say there would NOT be another dealer that would give such service.

Our Jayco has been dragged all over the place and its brilliant.. To answer the OP, it takes about a week to build the caravans, have a look on youtube for a video on Jayco factory they have state of the art machines that take guesswork out of building these vans.

Cheers and safe travels

Its great that Jayco give such a good warranty, but if they built their 'vans with good quality control, there wouldn't be many warranty issues.

I bought a new Jayco about 8 years ago and didn't have a single problem with it - not one warranty repair and I owned and use it for 2 years.

About 6 months ago I bought another branded van (doesn't matter about its name really, as all are poorly put together).

So far Im up to fault number 37 most fairly minor, with a few majors, but EVERYONE of them have been due to poor construction.

On our last 4 months trip we spoke to most van owners and obviously a lot of them were Jaycos. Not one of them were happy with the quality and one couple were into their 4th water heater and plumbing pipes which kept splitting (and they stayed only in CP's - not bouncing on rocky tracks)

Twice while we were away, we had to use country caravan repairers. One said he would never own a caravan (he uses a tent) and though all the brands, including Jayco were poorly made and the other said "Jayco is great from the chassis down". Neither of them sold vans, so didn't have a bias towards a manufacturer, but they both were as busy as hell doing warranty repairs on new vans!!

Incidentally, we didn't get a Jayco this time round as we went to 2 caravan shows and the Jaycos were the ones with most parts broken or missing (presumably broken and mainly taken off by the Dealer reps on site). And no, the other manufacturers got as many of the rough arsed public through their units as the Jayco ones.

Vans are built to a similar quality as new homes nowdays - utter crap!!

Bought a Jayco Heritage in 2004 and just traded it in on another brand. Spent 3 days fixing the plumbing and electrical under the van and then travelled 100,000 klms over the next ten years without fault apart from the normal maintenance required.  Only had a couple of warranty things to be done and they were carried out ASAP, great service !

The " new " van is a better design and finish but delivered with 14 obvious faults and should not have left the factory in that condition, and, as far as warranty goes, it has spent 18 weeks of its 25 weeks age in a dealers yard waiting for parts and repairs.

This company could do with some advice from Jayco as their service / supply of parts leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.
