I worked in the prison system for a while. The sad fact is that this is so close to the truth it's not funny.
One of the prisoners I looked after told me "When you retire & run out of money attempt to rob a bank, wait there until arrested. Then go straight into protection. After that it's all gravy"
He was in for murder & will not be paroled as he will show no remorse over his crime.
