A new day John.

What are you up to today mate??

Howdy Baz.

Hope your op went ok.

Today was mostly spent writing and typing legal stuff. Saw a couple of friends, had a nice tea with one of them and ended up at the pub for the rest of the night and now I am in mcdonalds typing this. Soon will try for some sleep.

Cheers John

 Hi, thanks Nelly.

Sadly, no.       Hmm, gonna take a while I think.

How does everyone suffer hardships in their life and get through them?

John - one step at a time - baby steps - you will have bad days, but they will gradually get further apart - find something to occupy yourself (as you have done by posting on here) - a lot of the members on here have been through what you are now experiencing, and have found ways to cope, it will get better, believe me.

My mantra every morning used to be - one breath, one step at a time. It works.

Thinking of you John, I hope it all works out for you.

I suffer depression, and at times I feel like im the only person in the universe, but the reality is we have friends who love and care for you=us.

Look after yourself and know that there are people who do love and care for you, even us GNs.

G'day Phil

Thanks for your kind thoughts. Means a lot and makes my day better than without.

Yes I believe it's not nice when that black dog bites.

Don't know if I have depression or not, but I sure feel depressed at the moment.

I can tell you for sure, that just the time spent on the forum here (it takes me ages to type and correct the mistakes)

fills in a bunch of time that might otherwise be used feeling pretty miserable right now.

So thank ...  for the grey nomads. I wish to thank you all.

I found it very difficult to get past the embarrassment of speaking out and sharing and asking for help. I still am highly embarrassed, but that is preferable to not wanting to have to wake up tomorrow.

Even though I know none of you as yet I feel like I have more/some friends than I did last week, and without  that it would have been intolerable.

So thanks again friendssmile I am still in here each day, and finding myself quite looking forward to it.

Take care all,

Cheers, John.

hi meetoo, its Monday. how are things today. lots of people on here who have had a hard time and lots know hard times are to come. so hang in there, visit the site lots and have fun. never know, you might decide to pack up and drive around Australia visiting all of us.. that's my plan. the people I have met so far have become very dear to me.

anyway, heres my day. took our grand daughter out for ice cream. she felt very special as her little brother stayed home and getting junk food is very rare. she saw santa and bypassed him (I was sure she would want to see him) and quickly showed us where the ice cream shop was. Strop and I gave her $10 and told her she could spend it on whatever she wanted. she is only 3 and she chose a big ball with frozen characters on it. a very happy little girl went home and showed mummy and daddy what she bought with her real money.

now, we are waiting for a storm. there is lightening and we have packed up the things we had in the awning. should be a cooler night.

Cheers. rocket n strop

Well I had a "nice" look inside the hospital on Friday for my op. 1230 admission and at 230Pm was almost next to go in. Got into theatre at 9pm out at 1030PM.

Starving, no food or water since 7am, fluids only still. Kept me awake till 4am Friday night with observations.

OUTCOME: nothing done as the instrument they has to fix my throat was 4cm too short,,,

ah well another day (prob Feb),,, this time I wanna go 1st NOT last.

When we were waiting we were joking who would be last,,, lucky me eh. I now know to ask everyone waiting (for 7 op theatres) to put $2 on the table and the last one takes it all,,lol

Hi jules Thanks for the reminder.

I took your advice and took one of those steps.

Things took a downhill turn for the worse today. I didn't think it possible.

So my step was that I rang lifeline.

I needed to and got some temporary relief with them. They were good and stayed on the phone for ages with me till I was ok to be alone again, so thanks to them and thanks to you  and others here.

Cheers John

Hi rocket n strop

Hmm 3 year olds and icecream - that could go either way, but I am sure it was just delightful.

That just proves that icecream is better than xmas?

Hope the storm is not too bad, It sounds like it is hot there, Where are you at  currently?

Howdy Baz

Sorry to hear about your op, sounds like a bit of a circus.

Been there before where surgery is delayed till very late. All that nervous waiting around is the last thing you want before an op. Especially with no food or water allowed. I feel for you, and those who had to wait for you as well.

Then the added insult of surgery cancelled, and having to wait a couple of months for round two.

Man, your day was almost as bad as mine!!

I like your putting money on the table idea.

Hey, make it worthwhile and make it $10 a pop.

Take Care, John

Yes Baz I agree with John - make the wait worthwhile - lol!!!! It wouldn't have been a really good day for you Baz - one would have thought that instruments would have been on hand.
Hang in there John - good times ahead. As Jules says one step at a time.

Yeah, thanks Nelly.

Actually, one small step at a time, lots of baby steps, is probably about the best advice I have ever had.

When you think about it, it can be used for most anything and is a pretty fool proof method.

Glad of it.

Cheers John

Hey John

There is a light at the end of the tunnel....don't give up looking for it.

This time of year can be very depressing for a lot of people and the way to make it better is to try and not be alone.

Talk to the local groups around.. The Mens Shed, the church, the Lions...anyone...and volunteer to help them. Groups are always looking for help and by helping others it will refocus you.

There are a lot of others that are better off than you but there are also a lot of others worse and by meeting and interacting with them you will feel better.

Don't look for help in the Pub it can lead you in the wrong direction.

Apart from Lifeline there is also Beyond Blue and social workers at the local hospital as well as connected with various community groups.

Don't be embarrased, be brave..it's your life...don't throw it away.

Look to the New Year, time for a new start, new beginnings and a new direction.

All the Best

Allara
