ANOTHER DAMN SUPER TYPHOON

You wouldn't believe it, 2 years in a row I'm tangled up in a Super typhoon. I'm due to fly to Manila Saturday morning, but that will be too late. Flights will have stopped. No point in looking at a bus. It's an 18 hour trip which includes 2 hours on a vehicular ferry. It probably wont run, but if it does, I wont be on it. This typhoon will hit areas along the island of eastern Samar, which bore the brunt of "Yolanda" last year. I'm on the western side of the island abeam the 6/18Z mark. That is the estimated time the eye will be in that position. In Philippine time it's 7 .02 a.m. Sunday morning, 10.02 a.m. Australian Eastern Daylight Time. This big mother will have winds of 160 knots with gusts to 195 knots. That's a strong breeze and a lot of people are sadly gonna die. Don't worry about me, I wont be one of them.....nono

Hopefully if I can get to Manila my flight to Melbourne leaves 3.00 p.m. Sunday. if the typhoon reaches abeam MNL by then, I'll be stuck there for a few days.

I'll keep you informed, but if I disappear for a few days it's because the power will go out, taking water, telephones and Internet with it.

Better make sure the beer is cold !! biggrinbiggrin

Not quite as bad as that but the wind played havoc across the Nullarbor over the last few days. A Van was blown over, still attached to tug at ****lebiddy. At Ceduna we got 105 k wind with a storm and about 6 vans lost their awnings. Thankfully caravan God saved us.

The language filter got that post but if you can't work it out it is slang for a part of the male anatomy

The panic is over, for me at least. One flight a day from the Provincial City I was in, at 6.50 a.m. Yesterday 2 extra fights were put on at 12.25 p.m. and 3.45 p.m. All fully booked !! After hanging around the airport on standby, I finally got on a flight at 3.45 p.m., so now safe in a Manila hotel awaiting my flight to Melbourne Sunday afternoon. The typhoon is forecast to hit Manila Monday or Tuesday, so I'll be well gone.

This is another "Super" typhoon and will hit the areas devastated by "Yolanda" at this time last year. Sadly, I expect there will be considerable loss of life again.

Once again, thank you all for the concern and good wishes.

And Dougwe, I can assure you that I am doing exactly as Wombat has suggested !!! biggrinbiggrin

No sign of the typhoons effects here in Manila so expect to be flying out today to Melbourne at 3.00 p.m. Luckily I left the provincial area in time, the eye is right over the top of where I was staying. Winds are 100 knots with gusts to 125 kts. Very nasty...
