Im taking a break.

Hi guys

Im going to leave this forum for a while. There are a few people who need to take a long hard look at themselves and learn to communicate rather than bully.

I have made some magnificent friends and had a ball. Thanks to all.

Not sure how long ill be gone but will be back one day.

Cheers and be nice.

Sorry to see you go.   Take that break from this Forum and revitalise, we will still be here.

But  in the years I've been a member of this forum, (Sept 2008 I just noticed)  it's nothing new to have participants  leave  because of  spats between others on the forum.

All forums are like that.     This Grey Nomads Forums  has seen it all before.  I doubt that it will cease to exist  because a member leaves for a while, or forever. It will cease to exist when the debate stops.  When no one has anything to say,   and no one want to reply  to the silence.

Hope you come back as I've enjoyed your posts.

But the G.N.   forum will not change. There will always be discussions and outright arguments.    as there has been in the past.    Lot's of them.

Anyone remember Dave06  wonder where he is now.

 Regards

Mike

I beg to differ Mike. I am a member of the Landcruiser Owners OnLine forum and I have never seen any bullying of any sort. There is a lot of exchange of information and questions about the vehicles and related subjects. It is also a very tightly run forum. Administrators encourage you to search for a particular subject as opposed to have it repeated under many different threads.  They also ask you to identify yourself. Maybe because of the type of forum it is, the bullying does not come. I would hazard a guess and probably say that in a 4WD type forum there could be some bullying as it is ego and macho. 'Mine is better' 'I did it better than you' etc.

There seems to be some ego on this forum and this may lead to bullying. If I am wrong I stand corrected.

G'day Phil, from where I sit, you receive/gain/contribute as much, perhaps more, from this Forum than most...how can we help and support you?..please ask....are you receiving unacceptable PM's?.....is what is happening prolonged or one of?.....by one person or plural....?...the very essence of this Forum is for like minded folk to join..not leave...or enforced absence....

I must be too niave to see what you perceive is going on, as apart from the minor kafuffle over Avatars and some very informative yet diverse views in the Tech Section I havn't seen anything worth leaving for...I see plenty every day worth staying for..including your honest straightforward posts....

I havn't been sticking my butt into some recent exchanges however I can't believe as a Forum we can't work out positives for you amongst ourselves, without Cindy having to be involved yet again....

As far as bullying goes like most I've been tried by the best of them....I ignore them and won't allow them to enter my circle that surrounds me....

I often sit round camp fires with grizzly old prospectors....it would be easy to take offence at some friendly jibing they hand out but to the core they are decent blokes who would defend you rather than ever hurt you...much like this cross section on this Forum, I believe...

Please reconsider or only take a short break.....I'm certain the replys' you receive will leave you in no doubt you are a required player on this Team......Hoo Roo

When the chips are down and times are tough that's exactly when you need your buddies, and you know what? While words can cut deeply many times I have seen strong positive helpful actions of help from those very people when action and not words were needed.

i am off to Brisbane for a month so I will be disappearing for awhile also, not that I think I will be missed biggrin.

Phil,

as you would have gathered by now, there are a lot of people here who value what you post (the technical value), and how you post it (the way you treat people with respect), many of us would regard you as a friend even although we have never actually physically met you.

If you feel you need a break, then please take the break you need, and we will all look forward to seeing you return, refreshed, and full of exciting new ideas.

PS. Don't leave your friends getting lonely too long.

PPS. They would probably appreciate sharing a wine with you when they get the chance.

Mike ..

I too have been round since Dave06's time.  In fact I still have copies of a couple of his posts that really got up my nose.  These days I re read them and have a good laugh, but they certainly weren't funny at the time.

He was the expert on everything & a prolific and rather articulate poster.

I still recall in some detail his tale of the couple who broke down near his place & were invited in for a memorable afternoon of feasting while he welded up their broken chassis or whatever. Then there were the tales of his duties on one particular Anzac Day, not to forget his Volunteer duties on Rural Fire Service & Crisis Help Line.

Perhaps a story too many.

-----------------------

Phil C  ..

I too enjoyed your posts.

Having a break certainly will do no harm.

I have done that myself in the past.

Thank you for your contributions & I hope to hear from you again in the not too distant future.

-------------

It seems to me that there have been a few 'disruptors' on the forum since perhaps early this year.  I sometimes fall into the trap in responding to their provocative or inappropriate comments, but more often than not I delete my responses before posting.

SWMBO gets great amusement out of me emerging from the study saying ' They're at it again on the (GN) forum.  You should have seen what so & so said'.  Her advice is always 'Well don't go there' and guess what, she's right.  I just unsubscribe to the offending posts.   I used to "Just blink" and it (the irritant) just doesn't exist in my consciousness anymore.

To me they seem to be rather similar to Dave06 in having what appears to be a good knowledge of a range of topics & quite helpful and friendly at times ... then out comes their real personality.

(This may be one of those posts that I usually delete before sending)

ps Edited my terrible grammar - replaced the non word with  ... 'memorable'

Yes, I too remember Dave06, I deleted myself from the forum at one point when he was in full flight, and regretted it soon after.

People can be more difficult when they are anonymous on a computer. And sometimes no offence is intended, its just so easy to misunderstand the written word without the body-language to help show what you mean.

i can fully understand where phil is coming from..

im not sorry that he's made this decision as he's a very smart man and knows when to take a rest, and when to step up to the plate...

If I get ticked off with a forum i'll simply go write on another one or go spend more time in the garden... its no big deal, you don't have to write on a forum every day just because you are a member...wink

if you are feeling frustrated and stressed take a day off, take two, take a week or more.. read some books.. and may I suggest "kidman, Australia's Cattle King" smile

see  you when you return phil... you know where to find me any time.. smile
