I would not touch that company with a 20 foot pole. Nothing but complaints.

If you want a quality system with excellent backup and aftersales service please try one of these companies that have a very good reputation among members here:

they will give you good advice and look after you after the sale.

Irrespective of who makes the gear I recommend you get a digital satellite finder that is programmed to the Optus satellite which broadcasts the Vast signal - it makes tuning in so much easier.

totally agree with Frank re that company and you should get a dish on a tripod, much easier to set up than that one on eBay, stay away from that cheap dish, well its not much dearer for a tripod + Dish.

would recommend all of the site's Frank has suggested, satplus have a place in Frankston, and Phillip will give you all the advice you need and will not overcharge.

If you are going up the centre or doing the west coast, get a sat disk no smaller than 80 cm.

AP I have been using a 60cm dish for the past 8 years and no problem anywhere in aust, I have heard a lot of reports about you must have a 80cm dish, I found this not to be the case, 60cm has been ok for me.

If you check the signal and quality strength on the east coast and compare it with the signal and quality of central and western Australia, you will find it a lot weaker.

I can only go by the experience I have had over the years, no problem anywhere in Aust, a lot depends on how one look's for the signal because I think a lot of vast user's give up after a few tries and leave the dish at home, then blame the size of the dish. IMHO

He mate you hit it right on the head, a lot of people who invest in the Vast set up, don't spend the time with there dish and sat meter and try to learn the correct proceedure for finding the satilight in the first place.

Maybe the fault is with the company that sold the equipment in the first place. When i worked in the industry and was asked by potentual custemers on the Vast set up, I would give them a quick rundown and then exsplain to them that sometimes setting up the dish could lead to a divorce.

If the customer was still interested and purchesed all of the eqipment that they would need, I would also include about 1 hour of my time to show them how it all went to gether , how to find the satilight in the first place,and also how to use the sat meter. The meters that i would sell were pre programed for C1.

This time that one would spend with the customer is very important and most of the retailers,( not all ) all they are out for is a quick sale and bugger the customer after the money has cleared in to ther bank acounts.

I used to get quiet a number of people looking for advise on how to set up and even find the satilight in the first place. Money for jam. Even last year when my wife and myself were traveling north ( Darwin ) and on the way up we stayed at the Daily Waters pub over night, had two people ask me if i had any television and that they were haveing trouble trying to find the correct satilight, and could i help / would i help them. What does one do but grab the tools and my meter and try my best. In the end all was good and left both fellow caravaners with the full gampet of television channels.

Further on that night my wife and my self enjoyed there company and also sunk a few coldys at there exspence ( I did't charge them to fix there reception issues ). So it worked out alright in the end.

One point that i would like to say is that if you are in the market for a Vast set up for your caravan , go in with both eyes open , purse strings closed, ask as many questions as possable. And also ask if the company is going to show you how to do a complete set up, even getting your Vast receiver turned on.

If the company does not want to spend the time with you............Take you self and your money some were else.

100% correct, I have lost count of the times I have set up dishes for other caravanners, and I'm no tv tech, I don't mind doing it to help out, and when they see how easy it is they say I want one of those sat finders.

Totally agree, the people at access antennas are excellent with their back up, where as itech are complete ignorant a***holes, and total jerks.

I went to satplus in Edithvale a few days ago. He has a dish set up outside the shop, showed me how to find the Optus satellite etc. He reckons, if you're doing it correctly, shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to find. Very helpful and good prices if you haggle a little ;) I'm just trying to figure where the hell to store the dish, if I buy one.

Hi Maryjane,
my dish is ratchet strapped to the spare wheel on the back of the van. It rides quite well there and is out of the way of anything but the spare wheel.

our tripod goes in the side locker and the dish goes on the bed, and sleep's there until we arrive at our next camp, don't forget the more you use it the easier it will get, and 1-2 mins is average, I only use a compass and the Satlink meter.

noticed a topic on the caravanners forum where itec world have replied to bad comments and they stated that they have seen the topics and have sacked several of their staff and are now trying to get their customer satisfaction back.
if you went with itec world do not pay that price when they are available for $199 with all inclusions

very interesting Ken, but IMHO their bad past customer relations is just that, I telephoned the shop a while back and asked about the ad in our TV mag and after a while and a few questions I was told to piss off, and that was the word's he used, for all he knew I could have been a prospective customer (I wasn't) just wanted to get info.

I would think the ones that are for $199 would not include the decoder.
