Old aviation related pics NT early 60's

My Late dad was an air traffic controller with the old DCA. As he was a radio operator and also a Morse code instructor in the navy. when he mustered out in 1956, he was snatched up by DCA as a relief operator as he could just walk in to any tower and take over. I had a wonderful childhood traveling around this great country from tower to tower I went to 28 different schools.biggrin The old pic were taken around 1962.

Many of our old slide were lost in the 74 floods here in Brissy but here are a few that survived they have been scanned from Dads old Kodachrome slides. Big Gorilla I hope you enjoy them mate.

The last two are one of me taken about 15 years ago in front of a Beach Sieria I did my consent speed retract endorsement in this one. And the other is Wendy standing in front of a little pocket rocket. A Lancair 320 two seater 200kt speed machine and real fun to flybiggrinbiggrin

I will see if I can find some more that might be of interest.

The first one is the first Cessna 310 sold in Australia Taxing at The Alice

Number two is a de Havilland Dove At Tennant Creek

Number three. the 310 again it was going to Bell Brothers in perth and was staging through the Alice

number Four is a shot of Tennant Creek AD from DME hill

Number 5 is an old Focker friendship taxing at Tennant Creek

Number six the old RFDS HQ at the Alice

Cheers

The Hats

Ron

Ah ha Ron, loved them. Yes please find more. What a wonderful childhood you had travelling. I flew a C 182 into Alice Springs with 3 mates when I was 20 in 1969, next time with my Dad and Sister in a Piper Colt around 1971, and in 2004 into Bond Springs in my Gyroplane. Ballarat to Alice, 3 days 18 hours.

Aussie Paul. smile

Good photos. The last one with the lady looks like the Royal Qld. Aero Club, Archerfield. The Heron has a registration commencing with "CR". That aircraft is registered in Portugal... Been a long time since I was Fockering around in the old Friendship !!! After I resigned from flying I bought a Pub in the Philippines. We were 12 miles from Mt. Pinatubo when it erupted in June 1991. I lost my Nav. bag which contained my Log Books, U.S. License, uniforms, photos etc. But I till have my Aussie Licence and Log Books, even though my License is "Frozen"...

Genesis Hotel in Field Ave... Also had 4 bars in Perimeter Road near second gate. Firecat; Wildcat; Fortunes and SuperBowl Tavern... Cope Thunder was always a big deal for us...

hahaah BG, I can't remember 90% of the pubs we went to, but with all the soft drink consumed I'm not surprised.. But yes, one of the best trips I have been on in my RAAFy days.

Here's a pic of one of the aircraft I used to work on, taken by a mate, a bit further north than NT. I think I had already bolted when I saw him coming.

Well, well, well,,, BG,,  I have helped fund your retirement courtesy of Cope Thunder 83,,, 3 weeks, out almost every night as I was liaison ATC only no controlling allowed,,lol. Only time I got lost was in broad daylight going to a USAF farewell, at night the lights guided us. Sat cross the back (on boot) of a T Bird drinking a beer as we cruised the streets of Angeles, great times.

Well thank you Baz. Next time I open the Dom Perignon and Cavier I'll think of you !!! biggrinbiggrin Yes the Aussies did come to Cope Thunder once or twice. It was an annual event with Air Forces from around Asia. Angeles was a great place to live, however all the Pesos you gave me, and the lifestyle came to an abrupt end on June 15, 1991 with the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. Clark and Subic were both abandoned and the American Military left the Philippines permanently... I stuck it out till my birthday in September, and on my 50th, abandoned the Hotel and moved north to La Union Province...
