Cairns and the Carby.

I suppose that should keep up the posts

Monday morning and off from Gordonvale to Cairns to catch up with Kevin and Kim. Kevin had offered to have a look at the carby to see if there was anything that he could fix without a big pull down, he adjusted the air intake, fuel mix and idle speed.

It was great when cold but we took the bus to the Pioneer Quarry and used the weighbridge and when we returned it was running not so well hot. Another look found that there was too much fuel getting into the second chamber and the float level was too high. Kevin phoned and was able to make an appointment to have a specialist look at the carby tomorrow.

The weighbridge result was good and showed 3800kgs with me in it and the box on the back, my GVM is 4495kg so I have no worries on that count. After lunch I went across town to visit Keith and Alice who are house sitting at a lovely house on 5 acres of orchard, so there was plenty of room for me to camp for the night. I have been offered a room in the house because the mechanic said that he would need an extra day to get any parts overnight. Tomorrow morning Keith will show me where the workshop is and drive me back home.

Tuesday night and the bus is in the hands of the carby expert and the update is as expected, it needs another float plus gaskets. All ordered and expect to be on hand by Thursday when it will take a short time to reassemble the carby. I had my phone in my jacket pocket and put it on the bed in my bedroom then left to follow Keith to Muir St. Bungalow.

I must have followed the wrong car and lost Keith and about that time I realized that my phone/GPS was missing. Had never driven round Cairns and had no idea which direction Muir St was and it was around 8AM in peak traffic. Don't want to experience that again and got there an hour late. All's well that ends well and Keith collected me later and we went for an interesting drive round Cairns.

Crystal Cascades is set in the tropical rain forest and is a lovely walk past metal steps leading down to several swimming holes with small waterfalls cascading down from one to the next stretching over a couple of kms. Didn't take the camera but Keith brought my phone so I will have to use bluetooth to transfer photos to the laptop. No Problems!!!!

Have taken a few pics of the trees in the orchard, I have never seen a mango tree this size. Think that those monsters are jack fruit. They grow 'em big up here. We had visitors this afternoon when Kevin and Kim who were nearby called in, we had an interesting afternoon catching up from Greens Lake.

Hi John.  When I was a kid, [under School Age,] the Mango trees at our place were at least that size.  They'll grow that size any-where I think, unless you have one of the Grafted ones, which I don't think grow that big, to make them easier to Spray, and harvest.

That was down at Glasshouse Mountains. [Sunshine Coast.]

Cheers,

Sheba.

Sharon your photos are great, I just point and shoot, resize and upload.

This last group came from my mobile phone, I am still trying to work out the new Cannon Powershoot.

The first photo is what we called "Jack Fruit" in the Philippines. I didn't know they grew in north Qld. Personally I don't like them to eat.

Hi BG. They are classed as "Exotic" Fruit here.  The've been growing them in Aust. for over 30 years [maybe even longer] that I know of.

Cheers,

Sheba.

A few more pics of unusual fruit found in the garden, well unusual to me. Still waiting for the mechanic to tell me to collect the bus.   John

Got to be able to pick up the bus at around 4PM and it idled perfectly on the way home, again in  peak traffic. Very happy with the result and the cost was reasonable $378 it needed a new float as Kevin had said. So am parked in the garden tonight and off to Mareeba tomorrow to catch up with Paul.  Also to find the Rivers store in Mareeba, these shoes are past their used by date.

Jules, expect to catch up with Chris later for an engine change over. Been invited to stop over again, he even reckons that there may be a car for me to use whilst the bus engine is getting swapped. Talk about things working out, I am always so lucky.    John
