Babinda again.

http://yeoeleven.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/babinda.html

Went back into Innisfail to get the refund on the timing light and do a grocery shop in Coles, I suspect that the selection and price will be better than the Babinda Supermarket.

Arrived here at Babinda early and cruised around looking for a good spot with room next door for Paul and found one on the top level. Am now set up for a while but we have no plans ahead as far as timing goes.

Had a call from Kevin (KevKim) and he is in Cairns so when I leave the plan will be to look him up, he will look at the carby and if there is something that can be fixed without pulling it down he may be able to fix it. Also he can set up an inspection with a local mechanic if necessary. All good.

Have been contacted by Alice & Keith (kandagal) with an offer for a cuppa and a campsite in Cairns for a night. It is amazing how things seem to work out well once the ball has started rolling.

I did fiddle around with the carby yesterday by restricting petrol flow and tightened up the accelerator linkage. Couldn't see the effect whilst driving, (the smoking) but the bus definitely ran better and idled easily.

Will take photos tomorrow but there are a few on the link above from last year.    John

Rain  and more train to come .

the pay hot showers are very welcme

There are hundreds  of campo people here ..

We have not been to the shops yet

The rain left pools of water  near the camps so we had to

move camps to higher ground..

 Very humid weather..

i am looking forward to seeing Cooktown

and the sights on the way there.

cheers from Paul

Looking at all that water around the camp area you two might need to think seriously about the Kayak thing. Not much better beside my Avan at the moment and that was only after one night of continuous drizzle.

Google Babinda Kayak, Rate for single Kayak $55 for half day. Its about 3Hr leasurly paddle down Babinda creek to the camping spot where Yeoelleven is camped. The operator when phoned comes down & picks you & the Kayak up to return you to your vehicle. Ive done it with the Wife & daughter & grand kids, Well worth doing. Will do it again some day when visiting The daughter as they live in Cairns.

Thanks for the suggestions Michael.

The blog can be accessed from the link on my posts.

As far as researching my trip through WA you can use the drop down list at the top left to select Timeslide. I started across the Nullabor here:-

Leaving WA :-

There were quite a few posts from Bali in between.

Looks like the rain has set in with the forecast suggesting intermittent showers for the next week so it looks like we may stay here for a while. Did catch enough water yesterday to wash the bus and it does look good and do not want to set off until the ground dries out.

No biggie staying on here the facilities are good and the $2 showers are great, might break my record of 3 in a week but not getting optimistic 'cos it isn't conducive to working up a sweat.

Looks like TV weather so I pulled out the antenna and assorted cables from their hiding places where they have laid undisturbed since last October and set up the TV. I have 39 TV and 5 radio channels so plenty of options but little incentive to view them.

Last night Paul and I watched then ABC 7pm news outside under the awning and I have found another use for the $300 fixed table previously bought. It is a good TV stand. Will need to adjust the colour before tonight.   John

John - you have everything you need - hope the fuel problem is easily fixed - Kevin will soon let you know. TV looks good sitting on the little table.

Do you want to come to dinner tonight - we are having Baby Q cooked roast pork and vegies, banana cake to follow!!! Saw a lady with one of the Coleman ovens you have - what a great idea!

We are still at Cleaverville - probably another two weeks - Billeeeeeee may ( I say MAY) go fishing today - hope he catches some whiting - yummy!!!

Enjoy the rain - we have had maybe two days of light rain since we left Darwin!!

Shut the front gate john, you now have all the creature comforts mate. All is needed now is the box of popcorn and choc top ice cream and it will be like going to the drive in. Just behave in the back seat.

Gee mate I can see you now, stretched out on a summer night at Greens around 11.00 pm watching Mrs Brown and the boys and all of us "Listening" to you laughing biggrinbiggrin

I can remember getting told off for laughing too loud at 9.30pm and I remember the next night watching the next episodes of Mrs Brown's Boys until well after 10.30pm.

I can remember who told me off but she will remain anonymous. We might meet up again and I will be in even more trouble.  John

Paul has moved on to Atherton to do some exploring and then on to Cooktown, the weather and inactivity has prompted his decision. I am happy to stay here until a change in the weather and then on to Cairns where there are things to do, I hope to meet up again later and resume our travels.  John

Juergen, Would be great to catch up again and see your bus, my broad plan is to be at Greens by the end of October via Tennant Creek and Port Augusta.

That means heading across the Savannah way within the month then the trip will take on a speedier momentum.

John

Michael, we may be down in that Esperance end of the state around then or a bit later. Be good to catch up again if things work out that we're in the same area at the same time.

Will be good if you guys do all meet up.

Thursday morning and now have been here for a week, apparently a "resident" here claims to be the caretaker and takes numbers once a week and advises council. His advantage is that his bus is unregistered and his car also and he gets to stay indefinitely. I saw his bus here last year a green coaster signed for tourism.

Am thinking of moving on Sunday to look for campsites written out for me by Kevin with a view to having an overnight stopover, if that doesn't work out there is always Gordonvale. Then ready for an early start to Cairns to have the carburettor looked at and hopefully a visit to Keith and Alice. All being well then up to meet Paul at Rocky Creek Memorial Park near Atherton.

We have had hardly any rain since Paul left on Tuesday morning and I have been getting 60+ amp hours into the batteries each day. It is very economical if you can prop for a week in a free camp with the only cost some groceries and a few $ coins in the shower. My new engine proposition is looking better and better and the plan to have $5000 by the time I get to Greens Lake is on track.   John

And, as we all know John, your plans nearly always come to fruition!

When you see Kevin and Kim - big hugs from us - and also to Alice and Keith!!!

The rain seems to be chasimy me , overcast this arvo

looks like rain heading this way.

The stay limit here in Rocky Creek is three days

that is no where enough time to see  but a fraction  of the Tableland area.

i came here  on this trip for the sole purpose to explore this neck of the woods.

no drinking water  .... Bugger.

The country side is very good , rolling hill sides Tis very nice.

Checked out the  rodeo ground $ 17 a night  so

after the three day stay here  I might go to the Rodeo grounds ,

Dam legs have decided not to co operate  and take me where  and  when I want to go.

so it's rest up for  a bit and hope I can get about soon . I have been over doing the walking lately.

This camp area is a long way from full  , everyone appears to be camped

at the  Rodeo ground as that  camp is packed .

cheers to all from. Paul

Paul - people have been known to stay more than three days at Rocky Creek - ad as you are not 100% at the moment, don't think anyone would object if you stayed a bit longer.

Paul sorry to hear that you have not been able to move around, hopefully that will pass.

I have stayed at Rocky Creek for longer than 3 days and will again of need be when I get there.

Just had another Grey Nomad family arrive Poppy Sore Eye ( Paul and Hazel) have just rocked in from Gordonvale, very pleased to see them again.

This place has lots of vacancies so there is plenty of room for many travellers.

Had no rain today but was cloudy and registered 56 amp hours on the regulator.    John
