Hi all, AGAIN!!! I am looking at placing another 12v, 100 a/h battery in parallel with the one now fitted, a 3 year old 100 a/h. Who, why, and where, is the way to go about purchasing such a battery, and what is a realistic price to pay?
The idea of adding another battery is Ok but to pair up with a 3 year old battery could cause a lesser life from the new one. As the older
battery could/might be on or near the end of its' usable life caused by Sulphating of the Plates causing a different resistance which can
cause the new Battery to be Sacrificed to keep the other fully charged. Even with my 5 year old AGM's if one were to Fail I would have to replace all 4 of them.
Usually AGM sealed batteries sell for around $280 to $350 for the cheaper varieties unless you feel like buying the top of the market ones Lifeline (made in USA)

usually around the $500 to $600 mark with about.
Cheers Kev.
Thanks Kev, I appreciate the theory you are referring to, but the current battery is in good condition. I am a bit of a cheapskate!!!

IF what I know now and I was to go and think of spending $500-$600 on an AGM Battery, I would just turn around and spend the same money on Lithium Batteries.. Not these.. they are way over priced But I would Look at these.. there a few sellers of these in Australia and they can make you What ever size system you need.. [Average Price is about $1.60 per Ah per Cell, a 12 v needs 4 cells] so about $640 for a Battery that will out-preform any AGM by 30%..
But then that is me... After getting beaten around the head and shown the Light...
Glamping here I come..

Thanks everyone for your input. I will probably go with an approx. $200 AGM this time, BUT very interested Juergen in your advice re Lithium when I have to replace the two AGMs down the track.
I'm waiting for Homeless[Brian] to come thru, he has had Lithium's for 3yr's now and they have been Abused.. They are still going strong from what I can Gather...
If they have the same Life as a Certain Rover that is on Mar's[10yr's so far], he will be laughing....

Any AGM you buy that is less than $300 won't last.... Sure you can buy them but they can't handle the pace..
I bought 4 X AGM (100 Amp) Lifeline batteries 6 years ago and I have only just replaced them... They still hold the charge quite well but not good enough..
Find a good brand name and then shop around, don't shop by price
