Discourtesy and disrespect for the property of others

I have been bought up from a young age to respect others and their property and to this day I maintain that respect, however two incidences I witnessed in the last week have had an upsetting impact, and have been a real eyeopener as to the manners and standards of some.

Parking bays have become so confined that space between the cars is very limited.  I know small cars have become very popular, however I drive a Fairlane that is quite large compared to the smaller vehicles today, and I always park well within the marked confines of my bay. I was sitting in my car addressing some mail for postage when a car drives into the bay next to me,the woman passenger throws open her door and wedges it into the side of my door,  She was a large woman I would say in her 60's but still there was ample room between the cars for her to have opened the door without slamming it into my car.  She gets out and then with difficulty she closed her car door.  I now get out of my car and tell her I saw her slam her door into my car, she asked...where did I come from? I said I was sitting in my car when she did it, I realized she may not have seen me through my tinted windows.  The Man driving their car got out, came around to where the lady and I were standing, he didn't even take the time to look for any damage to my vehicle, and nor did I receive an apology, he took her by the elbow and they both walked into the Post Office like nothing had happened. I was shocked that neither one of them at their age showed any regard for their actions.

Then two days later I am parked outside Coles Supermarket,  my sister is in the car with me, we just get ready to open the doors to get out when in comes a little car this time with two ladies in it, and yes you guessed it, bang goes her door into the side of my car, she quickly gets out and then closes her door, I quickly get out of my car and see red paint where her car door went into my white car, I bought it to her attention and she looked at me and said she didn't do that and that she is in a hurry and took off into the TAB of all places with the other woman.  My sister and I were horrified, there was no apology for her actions. People often point the finger at young people for their lack of manners and disregard for others, however in all honesty  both of these incidences were caused by people in my age group, which is early 60's. Like i said I know Parking Bays are very small, when I get out of my car I make sure I do not touch the car next to mine.  Even shopping trolleys are sometimes impossible to wheel between two parked cars as the handle end is two wide to pass between wing mirrors when two vehicles are side by side.  From now on I will park quite a way from other vehicles if at all possible.

Agree with you Kisha, and then you have the ones that squeeze a shopping trolley between the cars as far as the can, up against yours, not theirs.

Even if you don't intend taking it any further, I would get out with a camera, walk to the front of their vehicle while they are looking and take a photo of them and their rego.   Then take photo's of any damage to your car.

If they ask why, then tell them why and say you are having any damage assessed.  You are within in your rights to ask for their names and addresses too if you need to claim on your insurance.

Dam annoying to say the least. furious

Not a good thing at all Kisha. I had a car towing a trailer in a car park and as they came around the corner that I was parked BANG, trailer hit my car. I was lucky as I had two witnesses and as it happened one was a cop, very handy indeed. I had damage fixed at their expense.

I was also unaware they had parking bays at Greens Lake smile Better open my eyes next time I'm there I spose smile

Crikey Dougie - you know where the parking bays are at Greens - near the boat ramp to the left, and up in the treeline in our front yard!!!!!
