Thetford C260

After using this toilet for 12 mths without a problem, suddenly today, the pong was atrocious although it had only been emptied 2 days ago, i.e. not full!

 On emptying same, we found the compartment  also had waste in it and on cleaning out same and taking the filter lid off, more waste in there!

 Tried to email Thetford for advice, but they do not do this without paying quite a bit of money. Also ,this week had water on ensuite floor behind toilet. Does anyone know what has gone wrong after all this time. We are now too frightened to GO!!! Please help.

Bit of a worry, but I expect that the cause will be simple.  The Thetford is a great reliable product.

I am not too familiar with your model as mine is a C200 and has been first class for the last 15yrs.

I found  their support people very good to work with over the phone when I needed their (free) advice several years ago.  Must have changed.

 

The things that I would look at .

Have you been inserting the cassette correctly?   Maybe it wasn't in properly when you had the problem.  The most likely cause in my opinion.

Are you emptying the bowl before driving off?  Though this wouldn't result of waste in the 'compartment.

Check the integrity of the seal between the holding tank & the bowl.  Check for cracks or even missing or loose bits.  Get your torch in there & make sure that is completely covering the hole & sealing against the bowl & the holding tank and has no splits or perished sections.  (Maintain it by regularly spraying with olive oil).

 

I'd clean it out very well then get out a good torch & very carefully inspect the whole tank assembly & mechanism.  Looking for cracks, splits or missing rubber, as well as loose screws etc.  Maybe venting hose (if any) has been knocked off.

 

We did have a problem with a small amount of 'flushing'  water splashing over the bowl onto the floor.  Just changed the angle of the jet/spout if I remember correctly.  Or ensuring that the lid is down before flushing.

 

Hope this helps just a bit.

We dont have that model either but we have a rule that the holding tank gets 3 flushes (if water is freely available) and every third empty I open the vent and take a peek inside. You may have some ill seated seals or things coming undone that may be causing the leak, worth looking at.

We had water at the back (I have a Jayco 2013 Starcraft 20 footer) I found we had a small crack in the water line inside the holding tank space, thus causing a drip or two to get out. Oh the joy of plastic fittings. After a tweek with a spanner and some fresh silastic never had a problem since.

FWIW, in the electronics repair game we used glycerine to rejuvenate old rubber parts.

Re the smelly loo, Thank you everyone for helpful answers. After the next empty and clean, it has been behaving properly again, but will give the NITROGLYCERINE a shot!!

 After using NITRO you would atleast finish up with an exploded view of the toilet..dohdohdoh
