Highly over proscribed by the many greenie factions around the place who want everybody(except them)to live in bark huts and drive round in horse draw carts. While I think it is happening, It can,t really be proven, and won,t affect us much in this lifetime. Climates change, but Greenie lies stay the same. Bill
We are on our way back from Melbourne after cleaning out my mums house.
At this time of year I certainly did not expect to be sweating as l did.
You'd have to reckon something is going on
as to firmly believe that young Aussie couples should not have children because that is not socially responsible. They should work longer hours to support the overflow from populous Third World countries where the old man (literally so in many cases) never sheathes his short arm but uses it constantly to fertilise his bevvy of young chicks who should remain uneducated and dressed in bedsheets.
I am so socially 'progressive' from watching ABC's Q&A that I am constantly feeling guilty and want everyone around me to pay more taxes to gift it to the UN for the air we shouldn't be breathing as privileged 'whites' (whatever they are?!) and we should as 'whites' be diversified out of existence which by the way isn't discrimination but right. It is our fault that in populous Third World countries and Pacific Island that folk have built in flood and tidal areas, and despite those areas being risky from the year dot it is my fault and I should be gifting them money and housing as many as possible in Australia, next to Centrelink and in a suitable hotel while the guvvy house becomes available.
I am so socially 'progressive' from watching ABC's Q&A that I believe that gayness is a state of higher evolution and Nature's way of correcting what these irresponsible 'breeders' do at night. I bet those irresponsible breeders are 'white' too. However gays should be applauded and subsidised to have children.
All of this IS linked somehow to global warming and it is my fault.
First things first, no more $$ from me for those o'seas charities because hugely growing population at home and abroad is a good thing, apparently. Must be, the UN isn't worried about it. Instead, my mission is to gather an army of Readymix trucks to dump endless cubic metres of 'crete down those bothersome volcanoes.
Apart from that I will be doing what I have always done and most Aussies do, take care of what I can do myself. Minor things, like not buying heaps of packaging and preferring to repair where possible, not consume for the sake of it. The weather was always all over the place, but we really ought to take more care of Australia...and Australians too.
Purely as research of course we are about to leave on a cruise 13th. April - eventually ending up in Alaska. So I will especially check out how fast the ice is receding & report back to everyone. Cheers Alice
I for one have been around this place long enough to understand that things are changing, and I think the rate of change is getting faster, I hate to think what we as a generation are leaving to our children, and their children.
I do not know what is causing it, fight be flatulence from cows, or it could be the same from all the bums sticking up in the air while people have their heads firmly stuck in the sand.
If we accept for a moment that carbon dioxide has something to do with it, then recognise that Australian emit more carbon dioxide than anyone else. Maybe we should feel guilty, and look at ourselves, and how we can change. I think we owe it to the people we are leaving behind.
Couple of years back, I went to Palm Valley, in the Northern Territory, Lovely place i still had Palm Trees and ferns, from when it was a Rain forest, But it was all destroyed by '' Climate Change" Thousands of years ago, When no one could even Pronounce , Carbon Dioxide, Let alone make it.
I guess the real question is, how much is the larger global population and all our progress contributing to the amount of climate change we are experiencing? IMHO the two words "Climate Change" does not represent the true situation our globe is experiencing.
Rather than collecting a carbon tax and handing a big lump of it to the UN I would prefer that the federal government did something practical. Even if that meant the supreme sacrifice by politicians and senior public servants of not riding in those big limos @ one per big knob. Canberra has an excellent public transport service, yet thousands of Canberrans drive to work and many of them home garage government vehicles (allowing some to live on acreage out of the Territory completely).
I'd just like to see some of those who earn their daily bread out of telling us what to do and finding more and more ways to spend our taxes, showing some leadership themselves. I know that I have always conserved resources throughout my life and from the postings here most would have done the same. Many on here seem to live on a pittance, like church mice.
Yet the big knobs who ask us to pay more for power and so on are living high on the hog. What about the ex-PMs who up until recently were concerned about 'poisonous' carbon dioxide, but are now frequent flyers, have large offices and staffs in cities and ride in those limos? All at our expense too. They are either the world's worst hypocrites or they never believed in the global warming their lectured us on. How much energy and how much carbon dioxide did it take to build the $2million 'bungalow' one bought recently? Then she was off overseas demanding that our senior embassy and trade staff squire her around. I am not talking Party, all seem to be the same and in or out of politics.
Yet we have old people who are afraid to turn on a fan on a scorching day and the heater in the coming winter.
I put regular comprehensive audits of government, transparency of decisions and public reporting ahead of all of that spin. Think of the saved energy and carbon dioxide if (say) those hundreds of millions allocated annually to indigenous housing actually ended up as completed houses (and not in some professional's pocket) and were still standing inhabited by families and serviceable ten years later on.

It is happening alright, but the cause of it can't be known at moment . It may even be a natural phenomenon. but just look at pollution in big cities that could have some effect.
But then again it may not.
oh and ABC mist be best news etc because some pollys complain about them.
just my thoughts only
enjoy pete
I think we could substantially reduce the human contribution to CO2 emissions simply by ceasing to talk about them. I personally contribute to the fight against global warming by relaxing on the couch and reducing my metabolic rate to the bare minimum. In fact I believe my conscientious efforts should attract carbon credits.

Climate change may not be the problem that effects us dramatically first, the collapse of the food chain and ecology may be the game breaker. Overpopulation, denuded cropping area's, collapse of bee colonies which provide us with more than 80% of our foods. Diminishing fuel supplies, never ending rising costs, and collapsing infrastructure are major problems across the planet.
We've just had our hottest March on record and it was 27deg over night a night ago, last night it was 12deg and rained. What may be the biggest killer, could be dramatic changes in temps and weather which may effect those with illness, as it has in Europe. Maybe moving on today will bring us better weather up the road.
Interesting times ahead and no one can predict effects, outcomes or even time lines. Wouldn't be claiming it won't effect us in out life time, it already is, if you take the time to look around and see the changes in the last 50 years.
stop pollution - haha - tell nomads they are ONLY to light a fire for cooking and then may use it to keep warm ( instead of going inside and putting on more clothes?) I dont understand this fixation with having to have a camp fire every time they stop and thereby adding to the pollution

The truth of the matter is that the Earth is a living breathing entity [and no I am not a greenie]. Over the millennia the climate has been constantly changing. So instead of saying "Climate Change" let us say "Changing Climate". As for these computer "models", I take them with a proverbial grain of salt, as the model can be programmed to get the result you want.
We as a collective group are in an ideal position to take the lead by making an immediate & visible statement to all Australia on our commitment to the treatment of Climate Change & its associated threat to humanity. Numerically we are many & are spread throughout all corners of this land, we by-and-large drive large 4x4 diesel drinking vehicles, towing large loads, spewing toxic emissions behind as we continually travel far & wide. Because of the size of our rigs & our numbers on the roads in all parts of Australia in all seasons, my suggestion is we could show the lead to all younger Australians, all those younger than us dotty Grey Nomads, by all parking our van in a relative or friends' front yard & see out our time free of polluting the planet & contaminating their future. I could only imagine the massive volume of pollutants saved over the remainder of our time. This would obviously offset any minor inconvenience incurred by our hosts, & would be appreciated by all & could be our legacy for generations to come. I thus put forward this proposal to all Grey Nomads to take this immediate action. My apologies to any Tasmanians or Victorians getting set to escape a southern winter, but you have just had a hotter than usual summer & this should sustain you through the coming winter, but we need to make a statement here & take the lead. All I need now is a seconder for this motion to put it to the Grey Nomad committee. If this motion is taken up then I will pass on a happy man, with a clear conscience with the knowledge that I have departed, leaving this world a better place for me having been here.

So let me get this right. We have invested our hard earned $$'s in a van and a vehicle to tow it with. So your suggestion is that we sponge off others and stagnate for the rest of our life instead of enjoying our retirement and seeing what this beautiful country has to offer. Why not go the whole hog and ban all vehicles completely cars, buses, planes, trains, motorbikes & lawn mowers, particularly the dirty diesels that some people drive around and spew out copious clouds of black smoke [unburnt diesel]. I did check the date and realised it was not April 1st. I believe that this motion should lapse for the want of a seconder.
I think you are on to some thing there Umpie1. Sounds like a good idea to me, 'go the whole hog and ban all vehicles completely cars, buses, planes, trains, motorbikes & lawn mowers, particularly the dirty diesels'. Where do I sign up.

Remember how China banned all private vehicular traffic in Beijing during the Olympics to reduce the cloud of pollution that usually hangs over that city? It made a difference, the Chinese had to do as ordered. But personally, we aren't ready to give up our vehicle yet.
