Recliner chairs for Jayco Heritage

Looking for some advice we are looking to take out out current dining setup and installing two lounge style chairs and a trifold table into our Jayco Heritage van see avatar for van picture.

The chairs we have seen to date have been too wide to fit into the area available and captains chairs don't recline or have foot rests which we would like, If any one has done this conversion I would like some advice on what you did and the chairs you used and where you purchased them.

Thanks

I remember someone posting a similar question a few years ago which received some very specific replies as to where to get suitable chairs. I tried a search but could not find a link for you but I know it's been answered here somewhere, and anwered well to.

Built our recliner swivel seats from car seats, 4 of them and only cost just over $100 each finished. They have big armrests, fold down footrests and are great, also made tops that sit over the arm rests so you have a table to work on. But that won't help your situation, unless you want to make your own custom chairs.

We bought 2 recliner chairs from Harvey Norman and ripped out our L shaped diner. Much better and haven't lost any room. Also came with 2 footstools which fit nicely under end of bed and gives us extra seats for visitors. We didn't put in a table but bought some bookcases from Ikea and cut them down to size, so now have lots of extra storage. We eat outside mostly but our table fits in between the 2 chairs inside. We cover the front of the bookcase with plywood when travelling.

Hello Dave

must say the Blue Mountains is a beautiful place to be. Lived there myself for many years.

Anyway to answer your question. I have recently done exactly what you intend doing to your van to my 17' 9" Compass brand poptop. I live in Tassie so the sellers details may not be of too much use to you. They were a local Launceston shop called "The Importer". The chairs are leather upholstered recliners with a loose footstool. When trying to source them we had a massive price variation with what we thought was very little difference in quality (if any). We paid $280.00ea. One price was $595ea. They have a leather covered circular base, and so much more comfortable than the old bench style seats we had before. I put a box over each wheel arch matching the timber ply to the internal lining of the van. SWMBO made some foam filled cushions to put on top of the boxes.I shortened the panels that separate the bed area from the lounge, making sure there was enough left to support the walls. New floor covering looks great.

Hope this helps

Hi Aussietraveller

We did exactly as you say, we had a new Avan Owen, bought in Brisbane, took off to around Oz got Mildura and found that the "L" shaped lounge was extremely uncomfortable so one Sat we saw swivel recliners advertised in Mildura Office Works for $150 each so we bought two $300, went back to the Avan and took out the "L" shaped lounge threw it outside the van and fellow campers rallied around and removed the lot, these swivel recliners or leather / vinyl, and this exercise was done in 2011 and all is still going well. We put carpet under where the "L" lounge was because there were 12v wires and had them re-routed we got back home.

Kay and I have no dining table but use those steady tables on our lap which we have trouble with

Cheers

Dave
