Burial

I was asked by the local minister to play the bagpipes at a funeral for an old homeless man - he had no family, no friends and was to be buried in a paupers grave.  I agreed to do this for the old man.

On the day of the funeral I got lost, and being a man, I didn't ask for directions therefore I was an hour late to the funeral.  I eventually found the place and of course the minister and the hearse had all gone by this time.  The grave diggers were still there and having their lunch.  I went over and apologised for being late and said I would play Amazing Grace over the grave.  When I started playing all the men came over and we were all very solemn - some even had tears in theirs eyes - at this very moving scene.

When I was leaving I felt very sad for this old, homeless man but also felt good that I had done this for him.  As I was getting into my car I overheard one of the workers say "Well, I have been putting in septic tanks for 20 years now and this is the first time that this has happened".  Needless to say I left in a hurry and didn't look back!!!     nonono
