Thursday and nothing new is happening so I have been doing lots of small jobs like putting a couple of brackets to hold the awning supports behind the boot door, adding a third battery located under the bench seat opposite the side door with the positive lead under the engine cover across to the main batteries. I have made up a small antenna lead from the newly installed TV to the socket between the 240 volt ad 12 volt outlets, wired the fridge direct into the batteries and tomorrow intend to paint the wheels with some aluminium Killrust paint.    John

Yep, they all look as good as this. Chris did the tyres and I painted the hubs with aluminium Killrust, must be through the main stuff.

Hi John, just a thought,re you regering your coaster. When we went to re regegister our latest van (it was all of six weeks old ) from SA to WA ,they would not register it until i changed my driving license changed over from SA to WA .So maybe this is some thing to look at prior to the date of you getting your rego done. Maybe Vic has different rules, than WA.

I think you might be right with that herbie. My son had the same problem moving from Vic to Qld. Had to change his licence before he could change his rego.

Might be different as John is a bona fide traveller - the Vic address is only the "usually garaged" one - his official address is Qld I belive.

Good idea to check out the drivers license requirements, I will have to contact Vic Roads to renew my permit to drive the coaster so I now have 3 things to check out. Drivers license, Concession documents and approx time to arrange for a Registration Inspection.

I have a plan firming up about departure time from Frankston providing the roadworthy and registration go to plan and it also revolves around pension payments, roadworthy 18th April then rego after 23rd April with departure 8th May. That hopefully allows me to settle any financial committments and get back on the road again.

The law states in WA  you are  required to show proof of identity documentation befoe vehicle can be licensed in your name . Legal requirement to notify change of address within 21 days to change driving license.Do not know how you got around it, but would be interested to know

Regards Herbie.

In SA you have to show a item with your name and a SA address. Can be a bill or a receipt and I think just an envelope that has been through the post.
I just showed a receipt with the SA address and all was OK. They did change my drivers license after as they could not read the dates on my QLD one.
They gave me another five years plus the tow still on my QLD one.

Regards
Brian

It must all depend on the day and who you get when doing this rego thing, i am thinking from reading these posts. So what is drafted in legistration is just that....more of the tax tax payers money being used to churn out more unused Laws and regs.

Vehicle rego and Drivers Licence are two different things... As far as Driver Licence is concerned, I spent almost two years in NT, and more than two years at WA, and I never had any serious problems. I bought vehicle there, in WA, with my SA Drivers Licence, as well as in NT, and I didn't have any problem with registring to the adress under which I lived either in WA or NT. All you need is a proof of address, which doesn't have to be necessarily a drivers licence and can be bills of payments for gas, power, etc, plus passport or any local documents proving you to live under present address that your vehilcle gets registered to... You do not need to necessarily have a Driver's Licence, to have the right to become an owner of a vehicle, including any RV vehicle like caravan, motorhome, campervan etc. and to have this vehicle registered on australian roads anywhere in Australia, in any state or territory... In such case y It is different thing with the right to driving it on the road, insurance purposes, or when you apply for the pensionr's or other rego discounts, etc... But this is regulated by laws telling also what kind of licence you need to drive given vehicle. All depends of the volume of you purse, capabilities as a driver, of you fantasy as a vehicle owner -just average and normal,  insane or otherwise strange, or whatevther else...

I was questioned few times in both, WA and NT, as they noticed after some time I live there. After they asked me - quite clearly, rather more out of curiosity than other purpose - why I didn't change my licence, I said, I intend to do it as soon as possible, but in the meantime, I,m going back to SA, and besides, I am a very frequent traveller, and I come and go to and fron SA much to often to to change my licence so many times, untill I get more settled. Of course, they remainded me of the legal requirement of the 21 days, but they do know very well, that it is very very often simply impracticable and nearly impossible to police... This was just fine with them, and ended with no more questions. Some time later I did change the licence, but never felt any  real pressure to do it, except that when I changed it I got, almost immediatly, a letter with application for the voting in this state...

The same happen to me in WA, after about 8 month living there. And in very similar circumstances. Well... may be some road rules got changed, though, so much in WA since I was there last time? I was there last time some 12 years ago.

Besides... I noticed, some people seem to have overly fear of authority and burocrats. Or, they try for whatever reason of their own - to implant such fear to others by claiming problems long before they themselves could even get a chance to experience them. Such claims sometime found also on this forum are sometime just imagined, but still put as a real experience... They are often based on presumption or rumor by someone hardly informed at all in the matters, besides luck of experience in the real nomadic life style.

Think you missed the whole concept of this post, Yes anyone from anywhere can purchase a vihicle from any state ,no matter where you hold a deiving license from. I was talking about re regersering a vihicle from one state to the other. And you are talking about 12 years ago, A lot of things change in that time.I am not sceared of the law ,,,why should i be, i did the right thing, by not pretending any thing about coming and going from WA , i just told it how it was. With all inbound comuters in police cars today ,they only have to do a rego check and because your rego is coming up as WA but no licence is coming up , believe me they will pull you up, due to them reading from the computer that no  license is showing up from that state.  May not be braking the law by driving with rego in one state and vihicle regoed in another, but would ring bells after a few times of getting pulled over.

The MH I bought recently is currently in NSW I live in Vic.  It is due for re reg in October by which time I will have it here in Vic.  I rang NSW RTA and was told it would be fine to drive and insure there.  When I rang Vic roads was told I have 2 weeks from when I bring it to Vic to notify them and then in Oct it will be registered here at that is still my home state.  Hope it helps somewhat

I will find out Vic Roads attitude to registration and licensing soon enough am getting close to the roadworthy now.

The coaster wouldn't start this morning and it was the starter motor causing the trouble so when Chris came home he removed it and will take it in tomorrow for replacement or renovation. It eventually did start but we didn't want it to play up whilst the roadworthy was being done, the Hi Ace had that problem and I didn't want to set off with a potential problem.

John

Tuesday and I have extended my permit to drive and made a registration appointment for the Wednesday after the roadworthy, allowing a few days if there is any problem. I have also made an appointment to change over my driving license to Victoria so I went to my bank to change addresses there and have a statement sent to my Frankston address as an ID requirement.

Yes Chris I am hoping that it is only the starter motor, as with everything else all will be revealed in time.   John

Edited to add that the overhauled starter motor has been installed and the bus started up first time.

Actually drove the coaster to Springvale today and left it with Nigel for the roadworthy tomorrow, up to the new compliance plate I have not been able to drive it officially so I had only just driven it round the block. Spent the day with Chris and helped him with his deliveries wow he earns his pay unloading that truck with timber supplies and doors I was lucky to lift and carry half of what he does.

John
