Continuing at Green's Lake

The first thread is getting bulky into 3 pages so I have decided to open another Green's thread.

Today and we woke up to a cold windy day with little sunlight first thing, the batteries showed 12.3 volts so there was no problem but I decided to use the genny and charged up the jump starter, hot water heater, lap top, camera battery and gave myself another haircut, .5cm so I am not bald. Just got through all that and turned off the genny and got everything put away when huge gusts of wind blew over my shower tent, fortunately it was well pegged down so it did what it is supposed to do that is spring back into shape.

Windy+Green%27s+005.JPG

The gusts attacked my annex and blew it in toward the van I couldn't investigate but again it was well pegged down and didn't blow away, nothing could be done in the wind so I went inside and had a sleep and wakened to find the wind had died down and I could check things out. The supports coming out from the van to the outside wall had contracted taking the outside wall into the van. They are sliding tubes that do not lock just grip firmly but not firmly enough. I was able to extend them little by little to the full extent then quickly peg the wall to prevent any further collapse.
Another exciting day at Green's Lake.              John

Haha Doug. Would be really unfortunate to run out of room. It goes for ever. Hope to be there Tues or Wed or both if I feel well enough to stay over night.

An idea of how much room is at Greens - this is just looking left from near the boat ramp - it is that far again, or more to the right - huge area!DSC00739.JPG

Waw. Looks to me like buying a military style tent from the Aussie Demob Suppliers is best choise for such winds. This convinced me finally to get it after all, as planned before. It is relatively heavy, but solid, and good for all kind of weather. They are quite immune to even very strong winds, if properly pegged and set up. As my little Honda has little room to sleep - with all gear in -  such weather would be a truely hard experience indeed. I just think what my cat will get through. She is not used so far to any long travel, so it will be a bit of hard time to her.

Gday...

Judging from John's top photo, it certainly is popular and it would appear to be as crowded as a popular van park cry .... I would assume there is lotz of "other space" away from those who wish to 'congregate' ?

cheers - John

What you are seeing in Johns photo is just the bit around the boat ramp. It goes forever each side.
Plus there is plenty of room in the trees for some distance back. I have no idea of measurements, but will say there were 2000 people there last New Years Eve. Everybody was comfortably camped.
Won't be out today but tomorrow is on track.

Looks promising... I think I'll get going next Wednesday. Not rushing anywhere, I'd ought to be there in two or three days. Google maps show just a bit over 750 km from my place. I've never gone that way, yet, so may be it would be worth to stop here or there on the way for a few hours... Anyone familiar with the way to Green's Lake from Adelaide? Any interesting spots on the way? It looks to me also like a good spot to stop over for the Christmas time, too.

Yes jimbo Rod Heather and Norma are staying for a while but Jon ( Biggles ) has moved on. We have had more campers arrive Cheryl & Brian ( Briche ) and Doug ( Dougwe ) are now camping here and we had another visitor bringing a cake Sharon ( fireheart ) came and we had a good morning tea with cake and talk.

The weather is fine today with the wind dying down making it a treat to be here for the new visitors.

John

:)Thank you all at Green's Lake for your hospitality this morning. I really did not want to leave and it was a long trip home. I had many thoughts going through my head about different advise and things that were given and said. I just want to be out there on the road also. Still it is all go from now on and so glad that I have met some wonderful people and know that life on the road will provide the opportunity for new friendships and lots of laughs and giggles.

John it was lovely to meet you and you truly are an inspiration. You also give a really good hug. Thankyou.

Take care all and keep having fun.

Sharon.

Hi John. How it is there at Shepparton with shopping for electronics, etc. i plan to get a tablet, but I think It may be a good idea to get it there. And, the idea to go to Tasmania looks to me more and more appealing, after seeing all posts about it, etc. How it is with tickets to the Ferry. Can I get it on spot for the same day, or do I have to order the fare much earlier?

 Hi,

Shepperton is a big place with Jaycar, JB HiFi and Dick Smith to name a few.

As far as Tassie goes you get on to the website for The Spirit of Tasmania (google it) and follow the prompts you go through everything there. Before you get on measure the length and height of your rig because you will need that info. It is easy and you can go back and change dates, times etc to find the cheapest crossing.

John

Our latest count of  forum members camping here is:-

Lyn       travelling

Norma   shadyandme

Michael  nu-one

Rod       ROWDYRABBIT1

Heather gunnago

John     yeoeleven

Brian & Cheryl   Briche

Doug     dougwe

Brian     kiwi as

Lorraine rainbow kiwi

In camping sequence. If I have miss spelt any name or forum name it is getting late after the birthday party.

Yesterday I decided to walk to the nearest shop at Corop a round trip of around 10kms but was only able to buy tomatoes and biscuits out of a list of 8 items and I did want to buy some alcohol for the birthday, alas there were no liqueurs or spirits stocked.

Today Dick came back with the jet ski and invited me for another spin, because I had been on before he seemed determined to unseat me into the lake. No way I hung on like a leech.

Most of the campers came round to Brian's site at night and we had a birthday get together with a cake supplied by Doug and photos by Cheryl who hopefully will post the less incriminating ones to the forum. Just received a couple of pics fro Cheryl via email:-

Visitors to Greens Lake.

Most of this has been covered with posts on the General Forum but I wanted to mentioned also here in this Greens thread. Recently we have had several visitors from the Grey Nomads forum to our camp sites. Sharon (fireheart) came during the week with morning tea several of us enjoyed the cake and chatted about the nomadic lifestyle. Reluctantly she had to leave and return to her home intending to sell up and get underway next year.

David and Carol (Plendo) called in on Saturday with homemade fruit cake, books and DVDs. David shared the recipe for those who cook and it was moist and full of fruit. They were interested to gain information from us about various topics about our way of life hoping tp be on the road themselves in a couple of years.

Sunday and we had a visit from Judy (barina) who brought a huge lunch for us all and we congregated in front of Brandt (Kiwi as) and Lorraine (Kiwi rainbow) caravan again the conversation often returned to the forum, lifestyle and the types of travelling accommodation available. Again hoping to be underway in a couple of years.

Mary (mary) called in briefly on her way home after a Landrover trip through the high country, she has been travelling and camping since 2004 in her Rover covering around 160000kms

So with all this food available we Have not gone hungry especially when Brandt put on a meal of his excellent pikelets which went down very well. Also we had the birthday party on Friday.

John

Edited to create spacing after the post came up as one paragraph.
