Running away

I need a break! Retirement can be so exhausting. I thought I'd head a short distance north of Brisbane for a fortnight or so, no further than bundaberg. Any suggestions for somewhere cheap to stay, grassy and cool? Free camping would be wonderful but sometmes there aren't many options. I don't want to spend much time driving, just somewhere to relax and recharge before the kids descend on me for the holidays. Monica

Kenilworth is a great spot - at the showgrounds - cheap, facilities are pretty basic, but ok. Shade trees. Cheese factory over the road is great - good yoghurt as well, and lots of other goodies. Good shopping, and the bowls club ( I think it is bowls) have a meal on a Friday night I think. They do pony club there and play cricket, so some entertainment on the weekends.

If I may make a suggestion based on other peoples past threads.Cobb&Co,just south of Gympie might be worth researching.I seem to recall there were a few GN's who spent a week or so there fairly recently nand reccomended the place as a great place to unwind.

Regards

Trevor

I think Cobb and Co would be perfect. There is a charge but worth every penny. Solitude and relaxing. Showers toilets.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll try a couple, starting with kenilworth and then checking out Cobb and Co. I'll take the next step when I get there. I can't get away till 12th, though I am offloading as much as I can. And Trevor, I see we share a birthday.

RE: Birthday

Hi Monica, Hope you have a great time in SE Qld.

I have been to neither Kenilworth or Cobb & Co but other GN's have and sounds like both places are good to unwind. Will have to check put both myself after the Xmas break.

I have flown down to Melbourne to pick up a Mercedes Van for a friend on Friday.I will hopefully pick it up around 5PM and head off up the Newell.

Weather here today is cool and wet after a hot 32 yesterday.

I am up in the Dandenong Ranges and those mountain Ashes are just incredible. Of course forgot the camera so no piccies.Next Time.

Cheers

Trevor

RE: Running away

Hi Monica,

The Maleny showgrounds is ideal. Lush green pastures, caravan can back onto a beautiful flowing babling brook. You can sit outside the van and watch the water flowing over the rocks. Absolutely resting. A rainforest walk to the shop if you like to walk or drive the car. Watch people play tennis, football. Always someone doing something and all for $15/n. worth every penny. pub for dinner and other restaurants, coffee shops. the list goes on. have a great time wherever you stay.
