Emerald Botanical Gardens

Had a couple of nights at Emerald Botanical Gardens Camps6 #330.

This is a great spot for those who once set up find it difficult to drive and explore.

Just to the top of the rise there is a Centro Shopping Centre and beyond that the town of Emerald all within an easy walk. Then under the bridge there are the Botanical Gardens with toilets, running water, tables and seats and a rotunda. All stretching along the river. It is signed as a 20 hour site but that is not enforced and I stayed for 2 nights.    John

Sounds good John, is that a road or rail bridge over your van and do you get much traffic on it, especially at night?

If I remember rightly, it's the Road.  I stayed under it both times I went out to the Gemfields.  Don't remember the traffic keeping me awake at night.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Thanks for the feedback on the bridge, I don't know if I would feel safe parking near it, probably under the bridge a lot safer in case someone came over the top.  I notice only a section of it has what looks like a substantial barrier...hmm

Pretty sure that's the rail bridge Vic.  I believe the trains are used for carting cattle down there.

Great photos Johnbiggrin

Cheers!

Chris

Gday...

It is a rail bridge - and I think it has activity but unsure of how much. The highway is behind (and slightly above) the photographer.

Hard to find a level site as you can see, but acceptable as an overnighter - or if you're keen, as John has said, close to Botanic Gardens, shops and town.

During the "Grey Nomad" peak season, it becomes chocka full early each day, but as the "season" is now waning, space will be easider to find.

cheers - John

Bit of trivia for those who don't know - that bridge and the road bridge nearby were completely under water when Emerald was flooded - that is an amazing amount of water when you see the height of the road bridge. Emerald is a really nice little town.

No definitely not a good idea to camp under the bridge, could get wet. Yuk!  It has always been a busy spot when I have passed through Emerald so one needs to get there early.

Cheers!

If ever I get over that way again I will check it out.  Funny I have done the coast before and further inland areas, but for some reason have always missed Emerald, wasn't on the roads I took.

I loved inland Qld the best!

It's a railway bridge. The photo shows the shadow of the railway sleepers and rails. I don't know about cattle, but I think it's minerals and freight.
We, the driver and I camped about 100 Kms west of Emerald last Wednesday night, and there were 2 trains overnight.
It's a very popular spot, and was very busy last week. I camped at Lake Maraboon and met some lovely campers as well as reuniting with Andy and Jeff who run the place very well. The red claw were keep the anglers happy by the hundreds.

Hi, it definitely is a railway bridge the road bridge runs parallel 150 mtrs away. Whilst I was there I heard 3 trains pass over the bridge and I was forward of it to get the sun on my solar panels.

I have returned there for tonight and setting off tomorrow to Bedford Wier having spent a good day with msg, Mel, who is staying at Higher Ground Homestay Camps6 #332. She had sent me a PM inviting me over for a talk and we certainly had plenty to talk about as well as walking to the river a couple of kms away. Mel is well set up for travelling in a Transit with a KEA body. We spent ages copying movies between computers and hard drives we both benefitted in that exercise. The price there is very reasonable but you have to be self contained because there are no toilets. $5 unpowered and $9 with power for a bushland setting homesHigher+Ground+Homestay+004.JPGtay.

Thanks for correcting me John.  Been too long since I was there.

Hi Yeoeleven, glad you are having a terrific time. There is a character you may run into at the botanical gardens. he is a young fellow who is blind {not totally i don't think}. he lives on the river bank up a bit and grows vegies and rides a push bike. he has friends who are also in the gardens. if you see him, say hello, he has great stories to tell and is generally a good young chap and a pleasure to talk to. an asset to Emerald. cheers.
