The road goes thru to Mt fox, and then to The valley of lagoons, but its a fairly rough track, and I would recommend it for 4wds only. The road comes out at the Clark R , on the Lynd hway and goes to Charters towers or north to the tablelands.Isn,t the falls spectacular. One of the best in the world.Love your pics, Bill

After talking to travellers driving a similar van to mine who had just come from Wallaman Falls and told me that mine would get there no worries I decided to make that my next stop. I was concerned by the Camps6 #32 description of the access road, 20kms of dirt road, steep winding road not suitable for caravans. The newly reconditioned head did the trick no problems and I arrived safely by mid day. The layout is typical of Queensland National Parks with plenty of camping spaces, shady tables and seats and the usual amenities block, camp kitchen and seperate shower. What is not typical of any National Park is the sight of water cascading uninterrupted for 268 metres into a rock pool of 20 metres depth. After I had visited the Falls and Gorge lookout I went to the camping area and set up for the day and night. I walked the Banggurra trail and found the rock pools, rapids and long stretches of calm river and just when I had entered the water for a quiet swim the peace was interrupted by the loud voice of a coach commentator discussing the natural beauty all round. About 30 oldies came clambering around the rocks looking in amazement that I could be actually swimming in such cold water. A couple said that if they had brought dry clothes they would swim too. Yeah yeah a likely story. There were 4 German backpackers in a Hi Ace like mine but without a pop up top, so I can only guess at their comfort levels. I lent them my Camps6 and they took copious photos of the pages in the direction they were heading. No internet here at Wallaman Falls so I am doing the typing it out for pasting trick, Have taken many photos and have some earmarked for uploading when possible. Sigh! We were at Wallaman falls with our camper trailer about 4 years ago. It rained on and off and the waterfall was continually shrouded in mist so we stayed for about 3 or 4 days waiting to see it... no use going all that way and missing out! Lovely quiet campground, the showers were cold and our only company was some young people with a wicked van who left without ever seeing that amazing humungus waterfall.

Hi Doug,
your set up will definitely be able to get there, BUT, how safely is another matter. The hairpin curves would neccessitate driving on to the wrong side of the narrow road to negotiate the bends. The biggest vehicle that I saw up there had a luggage trailer on the back it was the coach that brought the tour.
On the bright side the roads are not busy and no one in their right mind would speed either up or down the range but better to leave the van in Ingham and do the falls as a day trip unless the Prado is equipped for camping.
The Prado is not camp friendly YET but I am working on that over the next couple of weeks. I will be rigging up a removable bed in the back and curtains all round I also have a Finch 3 way camp fridge that could be used, I also have a gas camp stove and a few various camping items as well so I could leave the Avan in a park or similar and as you say do the day trip thing.
The day trip thing was always my intention for a lot of places anyway.

Doug, when I was married to the Psycopath, we had a Troopy which was set up with bed, fridge etc in the back. I guess the Prado wouldn't be as long, but for one person it wouldn't be difficult. The worst part for me was climbing up and down...and travelling with a Psycopath, but that's another story.
