Lucky you are resourceful John - sounds like you have saved yourself a bit of discomfort.
The Comfort Station sounds very interesting. Is it possible for caravans to use the stop? It appears there are only parking spaces for motorhomes/campervans.

Yes John they are lined up along the road, the parking spaces are only in front of the Information Centre.

The van started to lose power and drop from 90 to 80 suddenly and then to 60, no good when there are trucks behind me. I quickly pulled over and turned off the van and when restarted had no problems for 20 kms when it started off again so I aimed to get to Home Hill Comfort Stop Camps6 #47 then called RACQ. Jason arrived later after I had checked out the fuel filter and started to check out the petrol supply and when the cover was off and the engine started it became apparent that there was a fuel leak and a pipe between the fuel pump and the carburettor had fractured. It was a steel pipe with olive connections and there were no mechanics who could take the job on this late on Friday which meant waiting till Monday and getting towed to the nearest mechanic. That was not on and I had the idea of contacting a diesel pressure hose specialist who had some 8mil pipe and then a hardware shop who had olives, fuel hose and clamps. For $13 it was all done albeit a temporary fix but I will be on my way tomorrow. How about Home Hill this is a magic place it is called a comfort stop and it certainly is, there are no camping spots on the grass but there is a fine camp kitchen, coin laundry, hot showers, Information Centre, water and power supply in the kitchen. All in all a really good spot to stop overnight. John

John, you really are an inspiration. I hope that one day I will get to meet you in person somewhere out there on the road. Your pics are beautiful as usual and the information fantastic. What a wonderful book there would be in your travels, showing people the "real' Australia off the beaten track instead of the usual tourist pics that are taken. Keep up the great postings.

Well the way I post photos starts with the photos already being on the internet. My photos are too big to be uploaded directly to this forum, that is too many megabites so I upload them to my blog first and then copy the link location to the Insert Image here on the posting page (small tree in a square on the second row). There are several ways to copy the URL across to the Insert Image page but I right click on the image to be transferred and select Copy link Location then the URL will be ready for pasting into the Insert Image box.
The only entries on the insert image box that I use are the top line (the URL) then the size which I have to cut in half from 1600 X 900 to 800 X 450, I disregard the rest of the spaces on the small page and then click insert image.
Sorry if it sounds complicated but that is what I do for every photo that I insert onto the forum. There are several good programs to upload photos on to the internet Picasa web albums is free and easy, just google it and create a web album and upload to it and copy it from there.

John There is plenty of room for caravans. It'supposed to be a 48hr stop but we had to stop over in Home Hill for a few days to sort out a medical problem & the nice ladies in the "I" said it was okay.

Great to hear you are moving ok now John - we have a friend in Home Hill, so have our own private "free camp" - currently near Mt Isa - spend a few days round this area.

Beware of the RBT around Mt Isa I was pulled over on the main road and also tested for everything else as well.
Fortunately no problems were detected and I was on my way.
Home Hill is a great idea but if you are a great sleeper and can put up with the trains and buses during the night and also the trucks on the bruce hwy then ok,otherwise it is not a quiet spot for a stop over I applaud the council for the amenities it has provided as it help the town but ?? Ken
Just stopping over for a few hours there, we bought some lunch and a few groceries. If it hadnt been there, we might have gone through to Ayre or Townsville. You are right Ken, its noisy!
Goodness gracious - noisy - it is free!!! The CP in Hughenden is opposite the shunting yard, and they start shunting at about 2 am!!!!! And you PAY for that!

As I think back it was noisy but at the time I didn't notice it, I slept well but then I always look for the positives so if I have given a rosy picture of Home Hill and you go and don't like it because of the noise...........................Too bad...............................look at the positives.
I would like to say thank you too Yeoeleven for your great photos and interesting and informative stories on your blog. I have been following them since you first started out.
I really enjoyed Home Hill as well, you are right...it is a magic spot.
For me...with regards to noise..if i wake up in the night from a train, or a truck, or a busy road...at least i know what that noise is so am happy to go back to sleep.
Its when we are camped in the middle of no where and i wake to some strange noise that i am not sure about.....then that will keep me awake all night wondering what the
heck it was.!!

It is a great concept but not everybody can sleep thru noise I appreciate it is free but I have to look after the other half as well Still positive Ken
