I wasnt sure what section to put this in? I have done trips with my little foxy but only in the car we have stayed at motels or caravan parks these have been only overnight trips.
I am after a bit of advice from experienced travellers who travel on their own with the dog. When travelling on your own what do you do when you have to leave your dog in the van when you go to use the loo or have a shower? Or what about popping into the shop?
My plan is to hire a camper a for about a fortnight to see how we go Lucy ( the dog) is a good traveller in the car and I think she will be ok if I left her for a short time but I would hate it if she started barking or getting stressed because I have left her?
Maybe pop the question in Travelling with Pets jenr. Also have a browse through that section, there are lots of questions and comments on the subject in there as quite a few have pets and give good advice.
When I take off I have my two little dogs, Jack Russell & Mini foxy x, both love travelling, I'm only away for long weekend or week off here and there at this stage, but have no real problems, when I go shower etc, they are happy to kick back and wait in the car, but I have always had them out for a good walk etc so they are ready for a bit of time out anyway, if I need to quickly pop into shop again no problems but I wouldn't leave them in car for long as I mostly have stocked up before I left home anyway. not sure if this helps but like HW said maybe check in the pets section, there are a few who travel long term with their pets and see how they go.
I have my dog on the front seat of the van and she loves it, sleeps there overnight. I take her shopping with me when at home and not too hot. Gives you an idea how they accept it. Mine just loves the van.
This dog used to be petrified of the car, she used to hide under the clutch or brake pedal, but now she connects it with goes places and loves it.
Some just tie their pets to the van/car etc, so they can get underneath for the short time, or under the awning in the shade/shelter. The park I'm in now allows dogs, and some leave them inside the van while they go to the loo, shower etc.
