I'm so sorry to hear that Dawa.  That is very sad.  Life is full of laughs and ironies, miseries and sadness.  You choose which ones you'd prefer.

Billee is just a happy, very seriously caring person who prefers to see the funny side of what could be a very miserable life.  I'm sure he has his bad times, but instead of wallowing in them, he bounces over them, and takes those nearest to him along for the joyful ride.

I reckon he would have the broadest shoulders should the need arise.  I only met him for a short time, but his spirit lives on in this forum.

Keep an open mind.  You never know what goodies might sneak in.  No one will approach you if you appear unapproachable.  It's a 2-way street.

And as Billee says, "Stay excited!"  He's right.

Sorry to have hijacked your thread snap, hopefully you learn of some lovely people out there and end up meeting some.
I sat here this afternoon and went through the list of users. I wrote down everyone I have met personally. The names came to 39, some are couples so that means I would have met personally at least 50 grey nomads.
I'm not sure why I have met so many but can I say facetiously maybe its because I am just nice. lol
May I also say I had a lovely lunch today of fish and chips and salad at the local cafe with Jazzin Around and her friend David who is travelling as a tagalong with her.

thought i was alone

If you're travelling you are never alone.  Sure, you're sitting in the cab at the wheel alone, and you park alone, but take a look around.

You share the road with a heck of a lot of fellow travellers, many of them are alone.  Get a UHF CB radio if you don't have one.  Channel 40 is a great source of road-wise information, and the occasional chat can be had with a friendly truckie, or pilot vehicle driver.

As suggested, go for a walk and have a chat to fellow campers.  I find people are a little reluctanct to approach me.  Maybe my rig and I are a bit intimidating.  Sure I am!  Yet if I start the chat it can be very informative, interesting, entertaining and educational, and can lead to all sorts of new contacts.

You are never alone.  When you have wheels under you it can be a very small world.  You start to talk to someone.  I used number plates as a reference point.  "Where in WA are you from?" For example.  "Do you know so and so etc?"  And you're on your way to a great chat.

Have fun.

Yes it takes all sorts and i realise Billy  has had his hard times.

However I know I would find that particular kind of so called humor very wearing.

Well this topic has certainly got the fingers onto the key boards.

WAY TO GO>>>>>>>>>>>

We all know there are others out there and maybe some friendly ones as well.

I am having fun down here on the Murray.      The other campers are not friendly types but that's OK.   I have loads to do here in my camp like spinning some of the fleece I bought at Gunning on my way down.

Yesterday I went down into Victoria to a little town called Chilton......very interesting.  My friend from Tucomwal came over and picked me up.

I bought another 20 books to read......love reading and at 20c -$2 good value.

Glad you had a good day in Chiltern Dawa - it is a nice little town - did you see the old gravevine - supposed to be the oldest in Victoria -

The good thing about this site is that you share so much with people, and when you do meet them, they feel like old friends - instantly! Cruisin Granny (Chris) is an example of this - she is one of the loveliest people you could ever know - the things she has done in her life are amazing!!! If you get the chance, meet up with her.

Over the last year I have met up with quite a few forumites - Esmerelda,Just Cruising, Shadyandme, Nu-one, Jonathan, Cruising Granny, Happy Wanderer, Beth54, Travel Bug, Ken Thomas, Gypsyrover, Janno, Yeoeleven (now there is a man who is an inspiration), Rhyss and Evie - and of course Billeeeeeee - hope I didn't forget anyone!!!!
I have enjoyed meeting all of them, and keep in touch with them through the site. It expands your network of friends.
Enjoy your camping, and do you knit with your spun fleece, or sell it on?

I will sell the yarn ready to knit or sell handknitted items.

I love spinning and it is a good way to fill in the days as well.

Haven't met up with anyone yet ......maybe in Tassie over summer

Having met Billeee personally, I can vouch for what everyone has said.  He is an extremely nice man and not really like his posts make him appear.  Take people as you find them then make a judgement.

Cheers!

Chris

Gday...

Snap1946 - I travel alone and camp alone - mostly because of the places I tend to seek out - away from the maddening crowd. I have been like this for most of my life.

However, I have never felt lonely in my life.

I strike up conversations with other campers and travellers and have only found a very few that seem to 'click' with me. I don't drink or smoke and often I think this works against me ... no tinny in my hand to 'aid conversation' and I begin to find conversation dries up.

I like my own company and welcome others to my camp when ever they wander over. I have met some very interesting people but have yet to develop an ongoing 'acquaintance'.

Just be yourself and take life as it evolves.

Cheers - John

 To paraphrase:

Laugh and the world laughs with you,

Cry, and you cry alone.

They say it takes less facial muscles to laugh than to frown.
