Public Showers

I will be traveling in a campervan and staying in free camping places and most don't have hot showers. I was hoping to find a site that shows were public hot showers are. What do others do for hot showers in the winter that are in campervans.

Most free camping won't have hot showers. There are a number of ways around it. Go to showgrounds once in a while, they have showers there,
Some public toilets have a shower attached. Most truckstops will have hot showers also. The ones I have used have been free.

We use one of these solar showers in a toilet tent- not the same as a proper one, but gets the dirt off.

Costs about $15.

There are fancier 12 volt showers available, but the solar one does the job and folds up to nothing.

I was given one of these type of showers, which I haven't had to use yet, but I know in theory how to do it. I also have a shower tent.

The little shower pump comes in handy to fill your water tank from a drum

HW & Beth, whats this shower tent thing, why do you need a shower tent, if you use a shower tent you are taking all the fun out of camping, IMHO biggrinbiggrin

Roadhouses and truck stops across the country will accommodate you. You can even park at some of them overnight.
Most are free for truckies and "pilots", but just ask, and if they want a couple of bucks buy a cup of coffee.
Some of the truck stops also have washing machines and dryers these days. They really are quite organised.
The best so far is the Caltex at Emerald. The bathrooms are ensuites, complete with toilet, shower, basin and lots of room.

Hi,

There is a free shower a few km north of Tennant Creek at Lake Mary Ann, which is also a nice spot for a picnic, however it is a day use only area.

Also in Alice Springs there is a shower available at the Town Hall for $3.50.

Hope this helps,

Anton

These days there are hot showers everywhere. Some aren't used very often and may be a bit dusty but clean.
If you are in need of a freshen up baby wipes can be a good alternative in an emergency. While we don't really get dirty driving, we may get a bit stinky, so baby wipes can sort out the stinky bits.
Safe and clean travels.

Even a 500ml squirt bottle can give you a freshen up and baby wipes are really handy.

A good toilet with hand towels or take a handy wipe and soap up, marvelous how good a job you can do. I used a hospital restroom before a medical appointment to freshen up. I couldn't really have a shower because of a leg cast.

A cold beach shower is another in swimmers of course.

I wouldn't have a cold shower down south in winter. Even summer is a stretch in some places.
A swim and a shower are really great though in the summer at the beach.
We might not stink pretty but we're clean.
Most roadhouses cater very well to the blokes, but not so good for the shielas, but they're getting better.
I talked to 2 girls driving road trains today. One was a mine triple side-tipper (I'll explain if you ask).
The other was a general road train.

Spent a couple of nights in Beachport in March.  Lovely spot.

Thanks for the reference Wombat. I'm in Adelaide and Beachport is in the SE of the state. However if I'm in your area or you get up to the smoke feel free to contact me and I'll put the kettle on. I live in a very prominent van park on the north side.
