Hi Spida,i live in Perth and haven't heard about that yet will check it out tomorrow and see if Jayco anything.

I havn't heard of that law spida but it's not to say it's not a law though.

No harm in speaking to the dealer he can only say bugga off.

Tell your sparky he is a tosser. I hope he knows electrical stuff better than he knows the law.

Reversing cameras are not even acknowleged in the law in Oz. Adequate rearview mirrors MUST be fitted when towing regardless of whether cameras are fitted.

I have one fitted to the rear of my ute as well as one on the rear (high) of the van and find them highly valuable for seeing things that no mirror can see, but the mirrors must be fitted.

Maybe confused re vision camera on rear of caravan , on this forum some time ago some one said that even with rear vision cameras you still have to have towing mirrors

disbelief Oh No - and he is a Kiwi also!!!! Was quite adamant too! I have spent the last hour surfing the forum and the net and couldnt find a thing anyway! Was going to have to spend $600 and he insisted it is law in Queensland!

well - maybe I will just do it anyway. Really need to see what is behind me and was going to get a double unit so I had one on the truck also for hitching up. Having said that he hasnt rung me yet...... smile

At Drummond Cove for 2 nights then off to kalbarri.... or somewhere north of here.

Hi Doug - left Perth yesterday - on a 2 month trip to Mackay. Have 2 days at Drummond Cove then 3 days in Carnarvon over ANZAC then off to Balla Balla for 2 weeks fishing with a cousin first week in May. After that .....???? Derby, Darwin...... Only drove the van for the first time yesterday and love it. Lots to learn though smile

I am sitting here in down town Wonthaggi, Sth West Gippsland Vic, watching the kiwis and Aussies battle it out in the Rugby League. GO AUSSIES. They are trying to frighten us with that Hakka (spelling) at the moment.

I had one fitted to the back of the ute, as it has a canopy which restricts vision. I find it very handy when driving/parking around towns without the van. It works a wonder.

I didn't fit one to the van, as whenever I reverse, Lyn stands behind with a handheld radio, and tells me where to go (more often than once !!!)

We have rear view cameras on the back of the tug and the van.
They are rear view in that once the ignition is on so is the camera you select to view.

Without the van the vehicle camera replaces our internal rear view mirror as its view is blocked by the Engel fridge in the rear of the Patrol. The screen is positioned over that portion of the internal rear view mirror that is blocked by the Engel.

With the van the high mounted camera gives a good view of what is behind the van, particularly vehicles that come right up directly behind you out of view of the external mirrors. Off course the van camera is invaluable when reversing into wooded campsites.

I would not think about getting a rear view camera while you are on the road, you will be over charged in the area you are at the moment, you would get a better price in Perth.

We have had two cameras for about 8 years and they are great for hitching and seeing those big trucks coming along the Nulla, it means you have plenty of time to talk to the truckies on your radio to let them know you have seen them and will assist them in passing you so that they do not have to slow down too much.

We have the Polaris and would recommend it, IMHO don't buy a cheepie from eBay, you will get what you pay for.

My B.S. antenna has been activated.
Ask him to quote the relevant State Legislation or ADR.

We have 2 cameras on the back of our van - 1 pointing at the Suzuki we tow & the other looking back to see whats coming. But there's no law to say we have to. Because of our size we have to have a check (at great expense) each year before we re register & one thing they don't check is to see if we have a reversing mirror

I have talked with Jayco at Cannington Spida and they have not heard anything about it,i reckon that bloke who told you
didn't know what he was on about.
I do think they are a good extra to have on the van and tug though. Enjoy your trip and welcome to G.N
