Loki, were you at the free camp in Morven? I stayed there a couple of years ago and thought it was great.

I can recommend the Waltzing Matilda Caravan Park in Winton. Normally, I don't bother with CP's but this one was worth it. Lovely people, and the $10 dinner was very good. Also the entertainment.

Thanks everyone! Tonite I'm at The Long Waterhole near Winton, perhaps hear the ghost of the Jolly Swagman, as this is reputedly it. I'm testing out free camping at the moment as I've set my van up for that and hopefully won't have any problems, but if there are any I'd really rather find out while there is better opportunity for fixing them. Winton is a lovely and friendly town!

And Yes, I was at the free camp at Morven Rec Ground, I've stayed there a couple of times and it is great! This time I only stayed the night, pulled in at dusk, out again at dawn.

So far I've managed to dodge all the wombats!

don't miss the Devils Marbel's NT look in the camps book, you must stay over night to see the sunset a must do.

thanks for the comments fireheart, we usually stay 3-4 days at the marbels, was only $5 a night when we were last there, honesty box system, but you should see the vans that just drive through and pay nothing, that really annoys me, especially when it is not that espensive.

Great photos Wombat! I'll be there in a few days. hope the rain stops tho! Anzac Day in Tennant Creek, then the Pebbles, then head south picking up the Marbles on the way.

I endorse your comment about supporting the honesty boxes, without cheaper campsites many people - me being one - could not afford the travel.

Hey Loki,
Make sure you check out the Litchfield National Park. I liked it better than Kakadu. It is closer to Darwin and in my book is superior, particularly for a short visit. You need several days or a week to get the best from Kakadu.

The best part of Kakadu for me was Urbirr: http://www.kakadunationalparkaustralia.com/Ubirr.htm Brilliant Aboriginal rock paintings that included a painting of a Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger).

Totally agree with you Clyde in regards to Litchfield NP.

Please don't get me started on Kakadu biggrin we will not go back to Kakadu until they remove the $25 pp entry fee, and their current policy of letting locals in free, we spend a lot of money getting to the NT and then they slug us for extra entry fees and no discount for pensioner's, I had a letter from The Hon Ferguson MP saying that pensioner consessions were being considered at the mext meeting. don't hold your breath.

Now I get off of my soapbox, if you have not been to Kakadu then it is worth a visit, but as Clyde said a week would be about right to see most of it.
