we usually have the van stocked with basics and replenish as they run out- so always have them.

After our first few runs, we took lots of stuff out- like extra chairs in case visitors came, and for a while we carried an extra matress for the annex "just in case". Now, even the annex has gone. Cooking stuff went as well, and we now travel with a frying pan, 2 saucepans, and an electric skillet.

in fact I don't think we always have matches= carry one of those gas lighter things that shoot a flame.... never gets wet.

I am still on a massive spending spree getting all my essential equipment together. I am trying to be very discerning but it will be interesting to see what i eventusally discard. When I had the van out a few weeks ago I also forgot matches.

I forgot my camera, hammer for the annex pegs, dishcloth and face washer.

Took a photo with my phone which didn't talk to my computer and I had to retrieve it via the GPS and bluetooth. I had to borrow a hammer from the site office all in all an interesting couple of days.

No such problems now, all I own is in the van.

Forgot to take towels one time - brand new towels do not dry one very well, we found. Also corkscrew - disaster! (before screw tops on wine bottles)

The other half thought I packed his pillow, I didn't. So we had to buy one for him on the road. smile

We do the replenish after each trip. I keep a book in the van and if I use something, I write it in the book to replace it. That way I know whats in there and whats not.

We also use the clicker lighters and I take a few just in case. There is always one in the back of the ute too.

My daughter bought me a pewter wine goblet for Xmas. I seen a lot of Nomads on the road with these and thought they would be a great idea and save breakages. I will no longer carry a glass one or any spares in case of visitors. Everyone generally turns up prepared anyway. wink

For anyone who forgets their camera and takes photos with the phone. If like me you can't work out how to get them onto your computer just forward the photo from you phone to your email address. I find that works for me, then I save it to my computer or email it on to others.

Don't sweat the small stuff, but if you forget the caravan, that's a biggie.

My cousin tell a story of one of his mates who pulled into a camp without the van......................but I reckon that one's an urban myth

When we got this van in '07 we did a short shakedown trip to Margret River to sort out any bugs & see what we ad forgotten to pack.

There were several things we found, sat dish tripod for one plus others.

We had planned to make a list of omissions but guess what?  Forgot a pen & paper didn't we! no

All good now though

Cheers Neil

I like that one Michael. I find I am driving along thinking "did I close that latch? Did I turn that off? Etc etc" a final check list would be good.

If it was only me I would travel as light as possible, If forgotten I go with out or buy a new one.Dont like and wont use lists for any thing. The thing I wont leave without is, to me the most important think of all.
ITS AN OPEN MIND, if you take that on your journey all other material things are of no importance.
cheers
