Denmark

Sinker+Bay.JPGAs Ellen mentioned in the Boxing day thread I have been camping on her property with the back packers for the past couple of weeks. She also has invited any Grey Nomad from the forum here to contact her by PM if they would like to visit.

Since I haven't been traveling my usual contribution to the forum has considerably diminished but will continue when I move on. In the meantime I would like to comment about Denmark.

The country here is really special, green fields and huge trees make Denmark a place to visit and stay for a few days. That is before mentioning the beautiful beaches and free camping grounds within a short driving distance.

I have taken many photos from around Denmark and will post them in this and subsequent posts the first is from Sinker Bay and the next two are Ocean Beach just a short drive down Ocean Beach Drive from the centre of Denmark.

What great photos and what a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing. Please also thank Elle for her wonderful invitation. I think I'll make "Go west to where the air is clear" my theme song for 2012.

Have posted photos of Ellen's farm where I am staying over Xmas and New Year. The property is huge with enourmous stands of Karri trees surrounding it with grassy hills and dams making a serene place for the non worker. Probably a nightmare to run and maintain but I can enjoy the break in my journey.

very nice John, make sure you check out Broke inlet when you head north. Before you hit the road, you might just want to have a look at your exhaust and check it is properly secured. It seems to be hanging a bit low in one of your photos and you would not want it dropping off in the middle of nowhere.

Thank's got your comments, I will look up Broke Inlet, the exhaust does look low but the photo was taken below the van and it looks worse than it is. It is only a few cms lower than the gearbox and is securely in place. I am very careful traveling to National Parks on the unmade surfaces and to date have been OK.

Have put up a couple more photos, The fourth from Elephant Rocks. The first from Waterfall Beach where pure water cascades down on to the beach and the third from Madfish Bay. JohnWaterfall.JPGMadfish+Bay2.JPGElephant+Rocks.JPG

Just been reading your blog John, you have been busy!  Regards going north, April is ok too, I have gone in April a couple of times, although as you say most go in May.

I think I read recently you bought a laptop antenna you use inside the van which saves you climbing hills in some cases, if that is the case what type did you buy and where did you mount it please?

Look forward to your next installment on your blog John (John has it shown beneath his signature on GN posts for any newbies here) and thanks for sharing your experiences and travels.

 Hi Vic.

the antenna is one that plugs into my Optus dongle, there is a small flap on the dongle and it plugs in. I bought it from an Optus shop for around $34 and it has a magnetized base. I have mounted a small metal ring on the roof of the van near the opening flap next to the table where I use the laptop.

The idea came from a post last year on this forum so what comes around goes around and shows the value of this forum.

I have been located in Denmark for a while that is why I have updated the blog but not the forum, will resume the travelling forum posts when I move on. Will look out for you when nearing Perth.

John

 Thanks John,

Suggest anyone wanting to know more about your trip & experiences keep up with your blog, it's very interesting.   I did try to put a reply on it but it said I had to have something or rather so didn't. (PS: John's blog is under his signature on his posts).

Am contemplating a quick trip down to Denmark but not sure yet, body works (Carol and self) are throwing a spanner in the works at the moment, always something to hold things up.  Might be a quick trip in between if I do.  By the way, hope you and Elle have the chance to catch up with those people I mentioned out off Gt Ocean Road if you get the chance.

Hope we do get the chance to meet up when you are up this way.  Good article in the West Australian Saturday's Travel section about Denmark about New Years Eve in Denmark and one of the wineries etc.

It will be okay to head north in April, but if there's been a cyclone or a really wet wet season there may still be water lying around north of Onslow. The worst of the hot weather will be passed by then.
Just keep chatting to travellers and truck drivers heading south and they'll keep you posted on the condition of the roads and the country you intend to travel through.
If it's too wet you won't get into Cape Kerauderon north of Hedland, 80 Mile Beach or Barn Hill, because those roads are unsealed and get very muddy.
Also the highway may also be inundated in some areas and impassable to standard vehicles. Just keep asking questions along the way.
It's the best time to see that country, and is a little cheaper before June 1st when the prices go to "peak season" rates.
Safe and happy travels wherever you go. I love your pics. The colour of the sea makes me homesick for the west.

Have moved out from Ellen's place and relocated to Parry Beach, she has personal reasons to remain in Perth until the 22nd so our trips will be on hold until she returns.

As can be read from this thread I have had an excellent time at Karrack Reach with Ellen's hospitality and the company of the backpackers but they have moved on and I wanted to return to my camping life.

 Hi jetj,

thank you for your comments, as a solo traveler I share my experiences with those who read the blog as well as the forum readers.

I used to think that a few friends from the Gold Coast and some from the forum as well as those met on my travels were a small group I was writng to but I found out about statistics and to my surprise there are huge numbers reading the blog and mostly from America.

John
