All I can say you ladies are so lucky living in Echuca, we have friends there and stayed there for 2 weeks when we did our 1st trip of the block and I really would have liked to stay for 6-12 months, but my hubby won that time and we are still here on the Gold Coast..................thought it was such a pretty place all around that area.

I had actually been considering leaving Echuca after my first trip, but think it is probably a great idea to use it as an ongoing base.

Incidentally, do you think any Grey Nomads would consider staying in my house and looking after it in my absence.

Do you know if this practice occurs?

Hi Lynnie and welcome to you. It sounds like you already have a fairly solid plan for your travel.
Yes, nomads do house sit for other nomads. You just have to put the word out on this site's home page. It's a great arrangement.
I'm a full time, caravan dwelling nomad.
I also travel for my job, and camp out along the way. I'm getting paid to do it. What a life!
Feel free to ask questions on the forum. You'll get a variety of answers, and all you have to do is pick the best, and leave the rest.
Nomadding happens in many forms. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Yes welcome lynnie .. I am part time solo traveler too ..planing to go full time next year ...This is a great site for solo's and couple's as well ...You will get lots of answer to any question you would like to asked ....So much information from all nomads that have been out there now and before us .. A wealth of knowledge and information if someone dosent have the answer your need i be very suprised

Hi Lyn

I'm planning to go full time on the road in about April at this point and can't wait - just me and the two hairy beasties (woofers, not blokes). The research seems to be endless as is the shopping list. I will be doing as much free camping as possible and will be towing a stately old 80's Viscount with a 4wd ute and canopy. I am installing 2 x 190w solar panels on the van and another on the ute canopy so i can go bush camping as well.

My plans are still coalessing but I think I will head up to Nth WA ad then make my way back down South again by Sept/Oct and head across the Nullabor. I want to get used to being on the road and feel experienced before I tackle going across the top.

This is a great forum full of very experienced and supportive people. The advice and support I've received has been crucial to getting started.

Did any of you time your travels across the top of Australia so that you could travel in convoy with others?

from what I understand a lot of solos team up with others to do big trips like that. I think Crusing Granny posted a tagalong site some time ago. Also you can always put a post on this forum to see who is where and planning to go when. I also understand that it is common to just meet up with people on the road and decide to travel together for as long or as short as suits all parties. Thats the great thing about being on the road - no set plans and lots of flexibility..... spoken by someone with no experience and lots of anticipation.

Anticipation is one of the best things about being on the road Elle and Lyn, it's the unknown element that is so exciting.

The experience comes as time and kilometers go by and you will be surprised at just how fast you "learn".

Everything you have said Elle is very true. There are people out there who would be only too pleased to tag along, help you out, offer advice and to share with.

Hope both of you can hit the road and live the dream in the not too distant future.

I'm also a solo traveler.I did a 21000kms trip in 2009, from Sydney up the centre to Darwin and then across the top to WA and down the coast and back to SA and home. I was away 18 weeks as I had to get back to work.

I did 9 weeks in Queensland earlier this year. I do a fair bit of free camping and have never felt uncomfortable or had any problems.

I hope to go back to WA again next year as I have now retired and will not be on restricted time. I travel in a hired Toyota hiace campervan.

Just get out and enjoy. smile

Hi Lynnie

I am also a solo female part time nomad. I have only camped by myself in caravan parks so far, but we had a get together at Greens Lake recently and free camped there with a group from the Grey Nomads - solos and not solos. It was great so keep an eye out in the Get Together section as well. Also good advice to keep an eye on all parts of the Forum not just solos.

Maybe we will catch up in the great outdoors.

Yes pauline i am a solo traveller but i am male,been on the track over 6 yrs my caravan is my home, it is very nice spot at echuca, i stayed at the c/park across the river on moama side,have you been too the bowling club for dinner,real nice if you want to go some where nice biggrin biggrin .Prices are ok , I have friends in moama,met in yowah qld last year amazing where you meet people. Hi there lynnie. Yes people do have sitters while you are away having fun on the road,been doing it while i have been travelling,been offerd 2 jobs next year. Make sure they have a police clearance. Be carefull though who you get. rvtraveller2 neil

Hey Lyn and Sue my vague plans are to be in North WA in June/July and then to head slowly down south and across the Nullabor. You never know, if your timing was in sync both of you might be able to travel across the top together and we might all meet up North in time for the trip down...... Hmmmmm this is starting to sound a bit tooooo organised but you never know.
