Had a couple of nights at Thomas River checking out the walks and fishing spots. Am getting used to the Camp Kitchens now and saving my gas at the same time. Never did any good with the fishing but tried.
Had a magical day, one of the best since I have been on the road.
Started out at Thomas River with a big breakfast cooked at the camp kitchen. Then drove to Cape Le Grand to checkout the fishing there.
Donned the bathers and went for a swim in the sea, a bit cold at first but soon warmed up after being submerged.
Lay on the sand in the sun planning the afternoon's fishing and what a result I had, catching a wrasse and a sweep in quick succession using squid for bait after trying spinning from the rocks to no avail.
Cleaned the fish in a rock pool and took them to the camp kitchen and cooked them on the bbq.
How about that for a day in the life of a grey nomad!!!!! Just a magical day. How could I have had a better day, certainly not in the predictable existence of normal daily life.
So who is the Chicky Babe in the water with you John? Looks like you caught more than fish, although your about to get a cold water splash, maybe she thought you were getting too excited, lol

Bill, I took the photo into the bait shop who gave me the advice on the squid and he pronounced it to be a mature Luderick which had evolved past the striped stage.
Caught with a paternoster rig with squid on both hooks cast from the rocks.
Ummmm........so what about your lady friend John ? I assume she is the partner of the photographer? Or did you catch her on a rig too, lol !

You are right Vic she is the wife of the photographer and we have had a great time together. I have a standing invitiation to call anytime for however long when I go back to Bairnsdale in Gippsland.
I have met several attractive solo ladies on my travels but have never got on as well with them as I did with Christine and Ollie. Unfortunately they have started their return trip and I am still here in Esperance waiting for the pressure cooker.
I was able to borrow a pressure cooker so that Ollie could give me a demo and he cooked silverside and vegetables for our last dinner.
I am glad you are meeting some nice company along the way John, there are some terrific people out there.
Regards the swimming pic, I don't think you would have won the "man boobs" contest at Green Lakes, you look too fit! I hope the rest of your trip goes well also. I may be doing a week on the road from Monday if all goes well, my Son IL came over today with a chain saw and something similar called an "Aligator" and helped me chop the rest of my trees down, would have taken me weeks with my axe and hand saw, lol ! (not to mention falling off ladders).
I have to be back in Perth by the 15th to have my rear fence fixed which broke off in a storm, not sure where I'm headed yet, thought maybe Chidlow, York, Beverely, and wend my way home from there, or maybe along the coast somewhere.

No worries John, look forward to it. Your plans not to go north of Perth/Geraldton until around April/May are good, I wouldn't go any earlier than that to avoid the cyclone season etc, that's what I've always done too.
You certainly look in good shape John, wish I could say the same, know the alternatives but a number of factors prevent me from being otherwise......

Ah the live on the road is to be treasured. If you don't like your neighbors or the scenery you can move on but often you get the best of both and stay for days where you intended an overnight. That's why I always suggest when planning your trips DON'T plan just hit the road and take each day as it comes.
