Oh we nomads are so resourceful. Between us all with our individual skills, we could build a van or vehicle that would never lead, it would have every useful piece of equipment, and would be soooooo comfortable we'd never want to get out of it. Congratulations and job well done John. Now Billeeee, are you going into PR when you get home? Are you on commission or is it a "love" job? As for the distance, when I went from Broome to Nowra and back again to take delivery of this van, I did around Oz in 25 days.

Having been off line for a couple of days I see that Billeeee has spilt the beans on how I fixed the solar panels.
What actually happened was that I bought 2mtrs of 50X50X2 aluminium angle cut it in half and riveted the front angle to the recess allowing for the return to hold down the front of the panels. The back angle was riveted to allow the back of the panels to fit in snugly and then was riveted to the panel.
I had some foam rubber the helped to secure the front without movement and the back angle had to be cut in a vee to allow for the curve of the roof. I then drilled through the roof in the rear corner and drilled up from the cabin and fished around with a piece of cable until I was able to catch it and secure the solar panel cable to it and pull it through.
The cable had to be cut to allow it to fit through the hole and I was able to cut off the surplus and refix the anderson plug then plug it into the anderson plug already mounted in the van. I had some auto body filler in the van so I was able to seal the hole securely to prevent leaking.
As you can see I am a resourceful guy who gets things done with a minimum of fuss. It was all done in the Mitre10 carpark incase anything else was needed. But all that was bought was the aluminium angle and aluminium rivets, all done for around $30.

Edited to mention that it was Billeee's idea to put the solar on the front of the roof, I always said that it would make the pop up too heavy.

Well done, John. I was going to ask did you seal it all so you don't get any leaks. I have that same well/recess and know it can get a bit of water in it. But I see you have given me the answer there. Hope it works well for you, will keep in mind when I finally get some solar panels.
4years ago I went right around, Townsville to Townsville , via Gibb R rooad, and the Tanami track,Broome , perth , Port Lincoln , Brocken Hill , Western NSW,15000KLMS and back in 24days, and don,t think I was racing. Then , again,my sister says I do lightning tours, and should stop and smell the roses..........

The only thing I could think of as a Wirulla secret was the dinosaur ant. It's a very long ant, about 3-4cm, which has prehistoric beginnings. It wouldn't take you very long to talk to "everyone" in the town. It's not a very big town, but everyone out that way has a big heart. They have to have big hearts because much of it is marginal farming country, and that's what the town's income base is. It's also the gateway to the Gawler Ranges to the north. Keep enjoying the journey Billeee, and sharing it with us.

I went north from Wirrulla through the salt lakes to Kingoonya, rejoining the highway just north of Glendambo. Met some Norwegians in Wirrulla they had limped into town from Kingoonya with their tyres full of grass (not that kind) that a farmer had filled for them so they could drive the rest of the way all, all 4 were blown.
I only had a 2WD van but had no problems, drove to the conditions (kept my speed down) as there were lots of sharp limestone rocks on the track.
Interesting place Kingoonya, got some fuel there but got bad vibes so didn't stay there, driving solo at the time.
Didn't know about the town secret at Wirrulla, was the Golden Palace a brothel in it's day?
