Sometimes I wonder if men and women really suit each other. Perhaps they should live next door and just visit now and then.

There is a great song that goes :-

"Live close by, but visit often,

That'll work, that'll work for me."

Can't remember the rest of it.  Will have to try and write what I can down next time I hear it.

Cheers,

Sheba.

I don't do relationships good either. I'm a great mate and friend but I just can't get that other part right.
There's nothing wrong with me, it's everyone else. And if I believed that I'd be in a cave.
They say there's someone for everyone, so I'm just hanging around waiting for my someone.
I keep finding out why the blokes are single, and I haven't had an offer I couldn't refuse.
To find one's best friend, partner, confidante and trusted companion must be a bonus of life.
Here's a little something I wrote some time ago.

LOVE HURTS FROM A DISTANCE ©

Life is no utopia,
In fact I think Im getting dopier.
While living alone is not ideal
Its the preferred option I feel.

I need family and friends
But fear when the relationship ends.
Love is such a powerful emotion
But when its gone Im still alone.

How is love measured?
Giving and receiving from close ones treasured?
Or the level of honesty and sharing
To demonstrate the level of caring.

Love creates such vulnerability.
Open hearts leave space for the ability
To be happy and content,
Or broken and crushed with discontent.

Its safer to keep distant
Make friends and acquaintances
But dont get too close
To avoid the hurt being worse.

Love is scary, we receive and we give.
I dont know how much is left as I live.
Are we born with a measured amount
And when its gone its all out.

Is love a renewable emotion?
Or do we lose it when we give?
Does it recover and return
When someone gives us love?

Cruising Granny ...Thanks for the poem, I stopped with relationships a long time ago and your verse describes perfectly why!

Have loads of friends but perfectly content alone as relationships and me don't gel :)

My Mum, in her later years, said men and women should live seperately, and just have outings together. She didn't have the greatest of marriages, but they were still together when she passed over.

Having been through 2 marriages and 1 great love affair, I think I agree with Mum these days.

I realise this is the solo grey nomads section but I've just got to have my two bobs worth.

I've been married for more than 37 years, funnily enough so has my wife (yes to each other) and I wouldn't change a thing. We have had our ups & downs but we emerge from the downs stronger.

Some may say we are just lucky but I believe a marriage is something Precious to be worked at.

I know people and relationships are all different but like I said, "That's my two bobs worth"

Not saying a good marriage is impossible, but in my experience a lot of people [I know both sexes can be at fault]  take everything, Physically, Emotionally, and Financially, and give absolutely nothing in return.

I've tried 3 times, and won't be investing in another relationship.  I value my Peace of Mind, and Freedom too much.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Can In keep the change from that 2 bob's worth?
That's a very valuable 2 bob. You're very lucky you care enough for each other to work it out together.
Relationships are a 2-way street centred on mutual respect and friendship.
That's my "theory" anyway. What the heck would I know? I've been seriously single since 1982 and in that time I've learned who I am, raised my girls, run a couple of businesses and travelled learning new skills all the way. Now I seem to scare blokes because of what I do, and how I do it, independently, by myself. I'd love to share it.
You guys seem to have the recipe right.
Can you pass it on please?

I possed the question / statement because i wondered if there is a special connection between solists and singlton. I think there often is. No one i know likes being hurt so maybe a travelling solo has found the umtimate free camp?

" Plain women know more about men than beautiful women do."

   Plain men... well... umm..drink beer?

I wasn't having a dig at anyone, just giving a another view.  As I said at the end:

I am quite happy to be single, but I do believe in happy relationships - my parents have been happily married for 60 years and very close.

Being a Gemini I see it from both sides as well. As much as I would love to be sitting in rocking chairs in the sunset with my soulmate. I also enjoy being by myself and not having anyone to answer to. How do I solve that one??

I for one didnt think you were haveing a go at anyone  ..you were giving as you said your two bobs worth and  that a good thing    ...that why we are all different and hopefully intresting because  we dont all see thing the same ..and we all have different  views  because of our lives  and how they have played out .

Oscar Wilde remarked that a second marriage was a triumph of hope over experience.
Can't help but agree.

Had a great husband for almost 40 years - lots of ups and downs, more ups than downs tho - and I miss him every day - but I am getting used to being on my own, making decisions without considering anyone else, not actively looking for anyone else. As my niece said - how could you settle for the rest, when you had the best.
