My son and his family live in Biggenden. Are you free on the weekend?? He's moving into his new home over the weekend. Might need some volunteers to help with the heavy stuff.

We're here but not on the Solo bit. Well I am anyway.
I'm stuck at home as my car is getting all the electrics updated to operate the sign and beacons for my new job.
Last week I was car-less for 4 days while the front end was being repaired.
This week I'm car-less because the auto-electrician is having his way with it - not me.
I've also assembled the roof racks and installed them and the sign. A park neighbour helped me lift it up to the roof of the car, then I secured it with U bolts.
I'm pretty handy with a spanner. Don't tell anyone or they'll all want one.
So I'm sitting here after doing 2 loads of washing and hanging it out, (hoping it won't rain), a bit of housework and sending the article I wrote yesterday to travel magazines.
Maybe we could share what our skills are, what we like to do, and what we can do when we have to - that sort of stuff. Especially when we're not on the road.

Great idea Granny - in my "spare" time, I make silver chain jewellery - used to do silversmithing as well, but don't have the equipment with me for that. I also do a monthly newsletter for the local lawn bowls club (I play lawn bowls) , work in the local visitors info centre, play squash, do some promotional work for a friends business, am currently organising market stalls for our upcoming local show in May - I sell a kid safe knife at markets(something I can take on the road with me when I get going again) - I also do computer research for a couple of people on various subjects (get paid for this).

Some samples of my work -

I used to do beading and quilting, found the quilting makes my back burn unbelievably so have given that up. Haven't done the beading for a while, must get it out and take with me, can sit out in the sun and make up some new ideas. Also will be crotcheting as have some wool for new grandbaby. Thanks for reminding me.

I'm still here at home. I've been crook for most of the last 5 weeks or so. Only just feeling better the last few days. Went over the northside of Brisbane to pick up a cargo barrier I bought on ebay. $10! What a bargain! Son may have to make a couple of minor adjustments to fit my car.

I took a girlfriend with me and after collecting my purchase, we went to Chermside Shopping Centre. Only ever been there a few times, as its a long way from my place. Hooly dooly it's HUMUNGUOUS! It was my first real outing for several weeks and I was chuffed that I felt well enough to walk the distance.

I won't know till Sunday if I'm going away at Easter. Depends on a few things. I hope I can.. boring staying home if everyone else has gone away.

I have a knitting project that I started a couple of months ago. Need to get back to it. It's a little poncho for my grand-daughter. I'm not much of  knitter, or any other crafts for that matter. I'm rather unco! I'm a big reader though. I'll have plenty of reading matter with me when I go away in June.

I am here, just back from a 4 month trip from Brizvegas to Stawell, just staying long enough to upgrade the van, after 4 months living in a 17ft van we decided we need one a little bigger with a shower and toilet.

We have settled on a 19ft Adventure with a combo shower/toilet

Leaving again for another 4 month trip in August

Jules, It was Sammy and Bella the sisters. Either couple deserved to win. They were both so good to the end last night. Had to do 5 courses, what a job.

I am a diabetic and a year ago had a heart attack. I dream to travel, to see and do the things i want to while i can.

I want to sell up, quite working, and go before its too late, but i cant. I have two young kids and by continuing to work i am both a better father by being able to see them regularly and i am also able to support and provide for them in a more substantial way. Its a tough situation alright, sort of me or them.

Hey Capt'n - love your avatar - reminds me of the old cream buns we used to have in Cairns when I was a kid - yummy!!!
We all have to make choices in our lives - look after yourself really, well enjoy your kids, and maybe you will be able to fit in some short trips, as the kids get older, maybe you could take them some places?

Meanwhile live vicariously through this site - travel in your imagination, read up on some of the places people get to - share your knowledge on the site, keep on posting - cheers

My sister is doing Silver-smithing at the moment.  Something I've always wanted to do too.

One thing I get mad about these days, is the way people just Straight-cut Jump Rings.  I worked in 2 different Costume Jewellers' in Sydney years ago, and you would have gotten the sack for doing that.

Doesn't any-one  Angle-cut them anymore ?

Cheers,

Sheba.

I'm back now. Just had a week in Wagga to meet my new great grandaughter (no. 3).

When we travel I do crochet and candlewicking to keep the hands busy and lots and lots of reading.

Love reading too Ma. Will be taking a supermarket green bag full of books I have been saving just for this moments.
My other hobby other than the crotchet mentioned above is photography so that will keep me busy taking, filing them away on computer and naming & dating them all.

I love doing the photos too. And I used to crochet. Haven't done that for a long time. Scrapbooking is another one I've tried. I've been doing my grandsons for quite a while. He's not long turned 13, so I decided that was far enough to go. Nearly finished.

I don't read much, when I do it's mainly travel stuff. For all you readers out there, it seems there are book exchanges or trade shops at a lot of caravan parks, and even little shops in little towns. I guess there are just so many times you can read the same books before you need new material.
My books are reference for writing and publishing as well. I'm a bit busy writing them.
There are so many things we can turn our hands to these days, either for payment or voluntary. It keeps our heads and hands busy, and I don't know about you, but I feel like I'm contributing when I'm involved.
I've joined the Gawler Sing Australia Group. I was a member in Cairns for about 2 years.
When I was in Broome I was President of the local Netball Association, specialising in administration and umpiring. I retired in 2007, but I still have my whistle should the need arise.
I learned never to ask, "Do you need an umpire?"
They always do, and it helped to keep me a bit fit mentally and physically.
I used to bowl but the wrists and arms don't like it.
Jules, the computer research sounds interesting. Can you elaborate or is it too private?

When I've finished with a book I drop it off at an op shop and buy new ones from there, that way always have a new supply. Unless someone I know wants it after me.

I often swap books with my d-i-l. We have similar taste in reading matter.

Lately I've gone back to the library. I can trawl their catalogue online, choose a couple of books and 'hold' them. Then just drive up to the window and collect them. Much easier than trawling the shelves inside. I have lower back problems, so standing for any length of time is painful. I'm better to walk or sit.

I've also bought books at the cheapie shops at really good prices.

I'm not and never have been a craft person but give me a book and I'll read it from cover to cover in one sitting if I can. When I as going away I used to stock up starting months before I left when I could get them for 4 for $20 Last time I was away I left home with 50 books, imagine the extra weight.

I now have a Sony pocket E Reader which is loaded with 340 books at the moment and is only 5 inches long so tons of reading matter without all those heavy books

Are they very expensive Clare ?   That's what I need.  [If you saw my library, you'd understand what I mean.]

How about ease of use ?  Are they very complicated ?  I need something simple.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Everything will be full over easter gilly. Only had it pointed out to me yesterday that it was a good idea I'm waiting till after easter to get away as the traffic on the road will be unbearable. Hadn't even thought of it.
Can you go free camping for a while, Maleny showgrounds is quite popular with the grey nomads. How far away are you from there?
