new member here with some juicy details..please reply

Hi Ya...its exciting writing here for the first time for sure.
I am about to give you all some very private details about someone I know. Since no one here knows him I think its a safe thing to do.
He is Male, 54, and forever single.
I want to talk about my friends finances and his current thinking.
You see he has a dream and has for a long while about looking for gold and fishing on remote beaches, spending summers in Tassie, camp fires and such, but has never exsperienced anything like this before.
I think he imagines owing a diesel Nissan and first buying a cheap caravan before deciding what he really wants.

The juicy bit, now i really want your comments on this please. PM,email,Post.

He has only $400,000.00 saved with another approx. $300,000.00 due in 10 years. No other assets except i am told $15,000.00 in shares. So you see we may be taking about a life time on the road, there will be no home to return too, or are there other alternatives?
What ya think? What should he do?

Please comment.

Same reply as in the general Forum. What the hell are you waiting for, and I can't believe you're wasting time asking what the rest of us would do. If I could do it , I'd be gone in a flash, and I'm sure every-one else would too.
Cheers,
xina.

Marry me. Ha ha ha ha.

Sorry Peterhaha, I just couldn't help myself.
Think and plan before you spend. Do you want an off-road van or camper trailer?
The choice of vehicle is very practical and acceptable, although I am a Tojo girl.
You've obviously put a lot of thought into this, and you're very creative. Well done!
It seems the funds are available and the finances are being managed wisely.
Stop procrastinating, and just do it! Welcome to Nomads. Cheers Chris

Hi Peterhaha!
I'm doing it on my own and with only about 10% of THAT budget!! Lol!!
I have another 10 years to go before retiring and getting a pension, so, my
trip is self funding! I spend about 5-6 mths working and the rest fishing, sightseeing,
etc. I have been on the road now for nearly 12mths.
I sold up every material thing I owned as well.
Good luck with your plans, look forward to catching you one day!
Cheers,
Dianne

HI ya Peter
This bloke sounds pretty much the same as me , all I have to do is talk the other half into it, tell myself to stop working and hit the road ....

Well, welcome to Nomads "Splitty".
Good luck with your travel plans, and your retirement plans. You can always work as you travel to get the best of both worlds - well, sort of.
If you devise a good proposal, (not that kind) I'm sure you could talk the "other half" into it.

Live for today

You know Pete..my parents waited and wondered, then died before they did what they dreamed of, my mother of a brain tumor and my father two weeks before her of a heart attack, a broken heart i think.....one was 61yo the other was 62...life is too short and you don't know what is coming your way, seize the day and buy the Nissan and van and take to the highways..go to Tassie, build your campfires, enjoy your sunrises and sunsets...who knows what you will find on your journey...good luck to you..don't waste another minute..as was said many don't have the money to do it..'your friend' does..GO FOR IT !!!!

all my friend are dying , or have bad health problems, and I am in reasonably health, so I spend as much time as possible on the road. Own house, own car& boat, some money in the bank, but will still have to work, sometimes. I, also, have some saleable skills ,so don,t thinks I,ll starve. That,s part of the allure- new places, new people, new experiences........South in the summer, and north in the winter is what I want to do.There,s a song in there somewhere. Bill

Hi
Your 'friend' does not appear to have to much to worry about - just get out and do it!

Me - no bricks and morter style home, about 10% or less in bank, and very little in super to look forward too - I will be heading back out on the road f/t next year and will be working my way around very very slowly.
If I find a nice little on site van and annex in a dog friendly C/P I may buy and travel part time again but that will be as much as I could afford I reckon!

Just Do It

Firstly WOW , to me that is a huge fortune, and besides that take a look at these sites there is work everywhere and if not work free accommodation for chores, i would be gone in a flash i wish i had that much money now i think ide be tempted to leave hubby behind email him tell him where i am and to meet me there :) truly life is too short im only 48 years old and i
am itching to get back out there on the road .

I have a daughter 26 years old she had a baby who is now three he was born with a brain tumour and still has that tumour this day, you wouldnt know it until he is tired its kinda like having bells palsy very slightly, but that kinda of thing makes you realise how lucky you are to be here in the gorgeous country of ours, to this day we never know what is next with our dear little man ryan but i do know life is short and enjoy it to the full

Im going to miss mylittle man when ever we do get to make that break ,but we all have tolive our lives my daughter has met a new man and is to have another baby girl in march and shes doing well, they all are her new man is a wonderful father and partner to both of them.

Take the plunge do it now :)
