Itchy Feet - again - Help!

Here I sit in my van in a van park in Cairns, reading my Camps 4.
What does that mean?
It means I'm getting itchy and twitchy to hitch up and hit the road again.  Talk about restless!
But I'm stuck here for medical stuff.  I've been here for 8 months now.  When I pulled up I thought a couple of weeks would do it, and I'd be on my way.  Boy, wah I wrong!
Since the doctors and specialists have had their way with me, I've learned my chronic health issues aren't chronic, and can now be fixed with surgery.  And that's a good thing, but it's taking soooooo long, and I'm getting impatient. So far I've done a few trips around the region, and written 2 books.  Well, the second one is nearly done, and the first one is being proofed as we speak.
The park is all but empty, so there's no socialising to speak of.
So how do I kill the itchy twitch?  Thank God for nomads.

when you find out the secret of keeping the twitchys away please let me know, I'm at work and I cant settle, but whats worse I havent even got my camps book to think about whilst I am here, I get home and it's gone, talk about withdrawal symptoms, worse than when I gave up the ciggys (was going to say fags but that conjures up a whole new addiction)

perhaps knitting granny, LOL!!

what are the names of the books that you have had published granny?? and what are the ones that are coming out.

Gee ..

I've tried & tried to write a book.  Done hundreds of technical, training, and quality docs plus lots of business cases & business reports.... but can I write a book..... NO!

Draft & draft after draft.  I read them & the language is stilted & dated.  Put them away for a time & when I look at them again they are even worse.

I realy admire anyone who can write a readable book.


(ps. I suspect that when I write I am still wedded to the technical/management report style)

Hi Bob & Cupie. I couldn't think of anything worse than knitting in the humidity of Cairns.
I have been writing to fill my days. There's more to it than just putting those words on paper. To get published apparently it's easier to get an agent, which means "selling" my book to sell my book. I haven't had any books published yet, but I've written 2. One is being proof read as we "speak", and the other is still being compiled. I have other stuff for about another 4 books, and I want to write one with my eldest daughter, about a life experience we've both had at separate times, but with a common theme.
The current efforts are both non-fiction and are collections of work I have written over some years. Sort of anecdotal episodes.
Cupie, if you've written the words the hard work has already been done. If they're technical manuals people with common interest will understand what you've written. You then have to find someone to proof read and edit, and that's where the agent comes in to get published. It's better to get a totally objective person with no knowledge of what you've written to get into them, and when they understand what you've written you're in front.
You have to write as though you are writing for someone who has no idea about your topic, and you have to explain it to them in layman's terms.
I'm going to set up on You Tube to publish some of the stuff I have written over the years. It won't be my books, but some poetry and short stories which won't make any books.
Keep at it.
And Dave, just keep flicking those pages. I've had three travel plan changes in the past week. Cheers Granny

I'm anything but a damsel in distress, but hey, if you want to rescue me, rescue away.
Taking on my nether regions might be a bit ambitious. Well, you could do in shifts I suppose.
Some of the ungentlemen I've met definitely have forgotten why they're single.
Don't get me wrong, there are many gallant gentlemen out there, but I just haven't met one who matches the required "essential" criteria. (public service speak for qualifications)

Anyway, I cope ok, but if you do get up this way and I'm still here, call in for a cuppa and a laugh. I'll put the kettle on.

There is no remedy for itchy feet. Is like trying to lick your elbow, cannot be done.

The best solution is to go, but I know in your case this is not an option, at the moment.

The best treatment is to find some distraction, your singing is possible helping. Try fishing, at night off a wharf.


OK, those that read this, own up, who tried to lick their elbow???

I didn't, but.. I thought about it.

I've just stirred the hospital this morning up to get a move on. For something which is considered urgent by my specialist up here, and the surgeon down in Brisbane they're taking along time. My cardio-vascular system can't take any more, and I've got some travelling to do.
So I gave them a rev up. Just waiting for their response and action now.

Never mind. As long as I have my fellow nomads out there "entertaining" me on the forum, I will always have a smile, sometimes a grin and even a belly laugh.

It's all good, and I'll try to be patient. Cheers Chris
